Marian Central's Cwynar grabs All-State football honorThe honors keep rolling in for Marian Central’s Sean Cwynar. The Hurricanes’ offensive tackle-defensive end was a repeat selection to the Illinois High School Football Coaches Association Class 5A All-State football team announced Thursday. Cwynar was one of four local players honored on the eight All-State teams. On Monday, he learned he was one of three finalists for the inaugural IHSA/FOXHILITESChicago.com Football Player of the Year. Cwynar (6-foot-4, 285 pounds) committed to Notre Dame last March where he will play defensive end. He also has been invited to play in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl in early January in San Antonio. The other area players named to their respective All-State teams were Cary-Grove linebacker Paul Rands (7A), Prairie Ridge running back Sam Campbell (6A) and Harvard guard-defensive end Ernesto Ramos (4A). Rands led a defense that did not allow more than 16 points in any regular-season game. The Trojans gave up 14 points in their last four regular-season games. Campbell led the area in rushing this season with 1,768 yards and 26 touchdowns for an offense that averaged more than 40 points a game. Ramos was a defensive end on a tough Hornets’ defense that allowed 95 points in the regular season and tossed three shutouts. He also blocked for an offensive line that produced two 1,000-yard rushers and was one of the area’s top kickers. |
