Badgley’s 2-run homer lifts McHenry in 10th

McHENRY – With his team facing a two-run deficit going into the bottom of the seventh inning, McHenry’s Zach Badgley came through in a big way.

Badgley hit a tying two-run home run with two outs, and the Warriors went on to beat Jacobs, 7-6, in 10 innings in Fox Valley Conference Valley Division play.

Badgley went 3-for-4 with three RBIs, and Nick Brennan had two doubles and an RBI for the Warriors.

Both teams scored two runs in the ninth inning to keep the game tied, 6-6, but Joe Ray of McHenry (17-11, 9-5) scored on a wild pitch with the bases loaded in the 10th to give the Warriors the win.

Colin Hansen improved his record to 3-3 with one walk, five strikeouts and four hits in five innings for the Warriors.

Matt Igara was 2-for-4 with a double, a homer and two RBIs, and Kyle Magnuson was 3-for-5 with a double and two RBIs for the Golden Eagles (11-13, 6-8).

Cary-Grove 12, CL South 7: At Crystal Lake, the Trojans were down, 7-6, in the top of the fifth inning when Corey Bruns hit a two-run home run on a 3-2 count with two outs to start a five-run rally in the FVC Valley win.

With two outs, Don Fitzgerald gave C-G (22-8, 10-4) a 4-1 lead in the second inning with a two-run homer. Steve Kedroski was 2-for-4 with a run, a double and two RBIs for the Gators (12-13, 6-8).

Dundee-Crown 4, Woodstock 1: At Algonquin, Willie Larsen was 2-for-3 with a double for the Chargers (13-13, 6-8) in their FVC Valley win.

Derek Brown pitched six innings, walked one and struck out two for the Blue Streaks (13-15, 5-9).

Prairie Ridge 7, Grayslake Central 6: At Crystal Lake, Nick Martini had a home run, a double and three RBIs as the Wolves (24-8, 14-0) remained undefeated in the FVC Fox Division. T.J. Swank added a double and an RBI for Prairie Ridge.

Matt Schmidt was 3-for-4 with two doubles for the Rams (17-13, 5-9).

CL Central 6, Huntley 2: At Huntley, Will Streit had a triple and two RBIs for the Tigers (14-13, 9-6) in their FVC Fox win. Tyler Funke was 2-for-3 with a run scored for the Red Raiders (18-14, 6-8).

Class A Genoa-Kingston Sectional: At Genoa, Hampshire’s Quinn Walker qualified for next week’s state meet in three events, winning the 110-meter high hurdles in 14.5 seconds and 300 intermediate hurdles in 39.4 seconds and running the anchor leg for a 4x100 relay team that took second in 43.9 seconds. The state meet begins Friday in Charleston.

Class AA Grayslake Central Sectional: At Grayslake, Cary-Grove finished fifth (40 points) in the team standings and qualified four individuals to state. Individual advancers for the Trojans include Ryan Psenka, who placed fourth in discus (156-02), second-place finisher Philip Fairleigh in the 3,200-meter run (9:30.54), and third-place finisher Dan Bartz (39.14) and fourth place finisher Dan McCall (39.41) in the 300 intermediate hurdles.

Ryan Michel earned a spot at state after winning the high jump (6-06) for McHenry (28).

Nick Lane won the 3,200 (9:28.46) and 1,600 (4:24.88), and Brett Verwijst took third in the pole vault (12-09) for Grayslake North (27).

Harrison Wancket placed second in the discus (161-05) for Richmond-Burton (16).

Jarod Zygmunt of Grayslake Central (5) finished fourth in the 800 (1:56.78).

Class AA Palatine Sectional: At Palatine, Dundee-Crown’s Matt Cutinello advanced to state with a fifth-place finish in the long jump (22-4) and a fourth-place finish in the triple jump (45-6), while Anthony Manfrin finished fourth in the 1,600 (4:22.3). The Chargers also will send their 4x800 relay team after a seventh-place finish (8:01.1).
