Hurricanes upend Aurora CentralWOODSTOCK – The crisp, cold October air didn’t stop fans from piling into George Harding Field for Marian Central’s homecoming and 50th anniversary. The Hurricanes picked up a much needed Suburban Catholic Conference victory by beating Aurora Central Catholic, 28-14. Marian Central quarterback Andrew Stochl threw for 138 yards, completing two of his passes for touchdowns. Stochl’s first touchdown pass was from 4 yards out to wide receiver Adam Szudarski in the second quarter. Eli McGuire, a wide receiver and defensive back for the ’Canes, intercepted a pass in the third quarter to help set up a touchdown catch of his own. McGuire’s touchdown catch came on a critical fourth-down play in the third quarter. On fourth-and-4, Stochl dropped back and let one fly to the end zone. Leaping and falling to his back, McGuire brought in the pass for a touchdown. “It felt great to catch that pass,” McGuire said. “I’ve had so many opportunities, so many plays, I was starting to think I would never get in [the end zone].” McGuire also had a 40-yard punt return to set up Marian’s first touchdown of the night, which came on a 4-yard run by running back Corey Cavitt. To close the second half, Marian stopped the Chargers on four consecutive plays in an impressive goal-line stand. ACC quarterback Mike Adams knew the Chargers needed a spark coming out of halftime down, 14-0. “We came out a little flat in the first half and had to step it up for the second half,” Adams said. Adams, a senior, threw for two touchdowns and 112 yards. Adams also carried the ball 24 times for a game-high 123 yards. |
