


Huntley girls soccer team starts 2-0 in tourneyHUNTLEY– Huntley’s girls soccer team advanced to the championship game of its tournament with a 5-0 win against Burlington Central on Friday. Besides defeating the Rockets, the Red Raiders (2-0-0) also defeated Elgin to clinch first place in the Red Pool. Huntley was led by Corinne Wronski (two goals) and Aimme Wronski (one goal, two assists) on offense. Huntley was just as good defensively, not allowing a shot on goal. Goalkeepers Katlyn Owens and Sara Hoffman each had quiet halves in front of the net. Huntley will play at 12:30 p.m. today for the championship against the White pool winner. In other tournament action, Marengo (0-1) dropped its first game of the tournament to Larkin, 4-1. The Indians’ goal was scored by Natalie Haskins, and Catherine Holesha made 11 saves. Marengo finishes pool play against Glenbard North at 9 a.m. today. Cary-Grove 2, Hersey 0: At Cary, Paige Wooldridge made two saves, and the Trojans (1-1-0) defeated the Huskies in non-conference action. Mary Schneider and Allie Simon each scored goals for C-G. SOFTBALL Marengo 5, Harlem 3: At Machensey Park, The Indians (1-0) received 6 1/3 strong innings from pitcher Danielle Simons (1-0), who limited the Huskies to two hits and struck out nine. Lauren Roudabush went 3-for-4 with two RBIs to lead Marengo’s offense. BASEBALL Harvard 15, Litchfield 4: At Litchfield, Chase Carpenter went 3-for-4 and drove three runs and Chase Blazier went 2-for-2 with four RBIs to lead the Hornets (2-0). Blazier (1-0) also struck out seven to earn the win. WATER POLO Evanston Tournament: McHenry went 1-1 on the day, as it defeated Glenbrook North, 14-4, but lost to St. Ignatius, 7-4.
