Waylock leads C-G to baseball win

CARY – Cary-Grove junior shortstop Chris Waylock homered and drove in three runs as the Trojans rolled past Buffalo Grove, 17-1, in their non-conference baseball game Wednesday.

C-G (6-3-1) broke the game open with a 10-run third inning.

“When their pitchers threw strikes, we hit them hard,” Trojans coach Don Sutherland said.

C-G senior Matt Nelsen (3-0) struck out four batters and allowed one run.

Prairie Ridge 6, Lake Zurich 5: At Lake Zurich, Will Mack and Logan Olsen both drove in two runs for the Wolves (7-4) in a non-conference win.

Boylan 11, Johnsburg 4: At Rockford, David Virgo homered and drove in three runs for the Skyhawks (3-4) in their non-conference loss.

CL Central 5, Hononegah 4: At Crystal Lake, Lee Spinelle’s two-run double in the seventh inning gave the Tigers (3-3) a non-conference win.

Huntley 10, Marengo 0 (6 inn.): At Marengo, senior Craig Lipp pitched five shutout innings and hit two home runs as Huntley (8-1-1) beat Marengo (2-7) in non-conference play.

Woodstock 13, Jefferson 11: At Rockford, Derek Brown drove in three runs for the Blue Streaks (6-3) in their non-conference win.

Hampshire 7, Belvidere North 2: At Hampshire, the Whip-Purs (5-4) got a strong performance from Kent Larson in a non-conference game. Larson struck out 12 and allowed two runs in seven innings.

Alden-Hebron 8, Christian Liberty 5: At Hebron, Zak Engelbrecht fanned 13 batters in five innings for the Giants (4-0 overall, 2-0 Indian Trails Conference) in their ITC win.

BOYS TENNIS

Prairie Ridge 5, Lake Zurich 2: At Lake Zurich, Connor Greenwald and Sam McNally both won their singles matches for the Wolves (4-1) in a non-conference win.

Jacobs 7, Wauconda 0: At Algonquin, Tom Schreiner won his No. 1 singles match as the Golden Eagles swept a non-conference match.

Johnsburg 5, Round Lake 0: At Round Lake, Dan Martin won his No. 1 singles match in straight sets as the Skyhawks (2-0) swept a non-conference match.

BOYS TRACK AND FIELD

Richmond-Burton Quadrangular: At Richmond, Kenny Riordan won the 110 high and 300 intermediate hurdles to lead the Rockets to victory with 220 points. Antioch (198) was second, followed by Christian Liberty (54) and Alden-Hebron (53).

Rocco Mazzanti, Ian Sanchez, Sean Baker, Chad O’Kane and Kyle Wismer also had first-place finishes for R-B.

SOFTBALL

Wauconda 5, CL Central 4: At Crystal Lake, the Tigers (2-2) scored four runs in the top of the first inning, but were shut out the rest of the way in a non-conference loss.

Grayslake North 6, Richmond-Burton 4: At Grayslake, Brooke Tracy and Kristina Gandy both went 3-for-4 for the Knights (2-1) in a non-conference win.

Belvidere North 3, Hampshire 1: At Belvidere, Jordan Moore went 1-for-3 and drove in the only run for the Whip-Purs (2-3) in their non-conference loss.

Durand 6, Alden-Hebron 5 (9 inn.): At Durand, Hayli Lagerhausen stuck out 13 in nine innings for the Giants (2-3) in their non-conference loss.

GIRLS SOCCER

Marian Central 2, Immaculate Conception 0: At Woodstock, Kelly Petty scored twice for the Hurricanes (3-0 overall, 2-0 Suburban Catholic Conference) in a SCC victory.

GIRLS TRACK AND FIELD

Cary-Grove Triangular: At Cary, Kelly McCoy and Carly Loeffel each won two events as the Trojans scored 89 points to win the triangular. Woodstock (48) was second and McHenry (40) was third.

McCoy won the 100 meters and triple jump, and Loeffel won the 100 high hurdles and the 200.

Richmond-Burton Triangular: At Richmond, Talia Sheedlo and Hollis DuBois each won two events as the Rockets won the meet with 105 points over Christian Liberty (39) and Alden-Hebron (28). Sheedlo swept the 100 high and 300 low hurdles. DuBois won the shot put and discus.
