


Home runs help CL South stop HuntleyHUNTLEY – Crystal Lake South’s softball team used the long ball Wednesday in its 4-1 Fox Valley Conference crossover win against Huntley. The Gators (9-2) got home runs from Vicki Pyan and Kaitlin Hardie in the win. Liz Adams went 2-for-2 with an RBI for the Gators, and Emily Mahoney (6-1) limited the Red Raiders (9-5) to one run and struck out four in seven innings to earn the win. Jenna Mychko went 2-for-3 with an RBI to lead Huntley’s offense. Sam Clemons (7-4) pitched a complete game and struck out three in the loss. Jacobs 12, CL Central 2: At Crystal Lake, the Golden Eagles (5-3) were led by Cassie Bencal (2-for-5, two runs) and Jenna Teson (2-for-5, two runs, RBI) in their FVC crossover win. Katie Mauro went 2-for-4 with two doubles for Central (3-3). Dundee-Crown 4, Grayslake North 1: At Grayslake, Emillie Kerkman flirted with a no-hitter until the seventh inning before giving up a home run in the FVC crossover win for the Chargers (4-4). Kerkman (4-4) struck out 11 to earn the win. Carly Borders struck out nine in the loss for North (2-3). Johnsburg 2, Cary-Grove 1: At Johnsburg, Sam Gorski drove in the winning run for the Skyhawks (2-5-1) in FVC crossover action. Alexis Haley went 2-for-3 with a double to lead Cary-Grove (5-5). Grayslake Central 8, Woodstock 1: At Grayslake, Abbie Goetsch hit a three-run home run and a grand slam for the Rams (3-7) in an FVC crossover win. Molly Whiting went 1-for-3 with a run scored for Woodstock (2-9). Hampshire 1, Richmond-Burton 0: At Hampshire, Brianna Doyle went 2-for-3 with a double and drove in the only run in the win for the Whip-Purs (3-4 overall, 1-0 Big Northern Conference East Division). Tegan Singleton struck out seven to earn the win. Kaitlyn Vinyard (0-4) struck out five in six innings and took the loss for Richmond-Burton (1-8-1, 0-1 BNC East). Immaculate Conception 14, Marian Central 4 (5 inn.): At Elmhurst, Mary Belluomini led the Hurricanes (2-4, 0-1) with a hit and two runs scored as they lost to open Suburban Catholic Conference play. Alden-Hebron 17, Hiawatha 7 (6 inn.): At Hebron, Hayli Lagerhausen struck out seven to get the win for the Giants (3-4) in non-conference play. Lagerhausen added three hits, including a double, and scored two runs. SOCCER McHenry 1, Grant 0: At Fox Lake, Gabby Breisch scored the lone goal, and the Warriors (6-2) won in non-conference play. Marian Central 2, Guilford 1: At Rockford, Kelly Petty scored a goal and assisted on the other as the Hurricanes (5-0) won in non-conference action. TRACK Woodstock Triangular: Lisa Kucharski broke a school record in the pole vault (9 feet, 5 inches) to lead the Blue Streaks to a win against Crystal Lake Central (80) and Grayslake North (15). Kucharski added a win in the 300-meter low hurdles (46.0 seconds). Stephanie Peisker won the 3,200 meters (12:17.2) for Central. Sarah Salomon won the 400 meters (1:07.4) for North. McHenry Triangular: Alexis Wells won the 200 (27.4) and 100 meters (13.3) for Crystal Lake South (97), which won the meet against Jacobs (28) and McHenry (28). Kat Makridakis won the shot put (105-2) for Jacobs, and Ashley Conway won the high jump (5-6) and long jump (16-9) for McHenry.
