J’burg, Wauconda slug it out in tie

JOHNSBURG – Thirty-four runs were scored between Johnsburg and Wauconda on Wednesday.

In the end, it still wasn’t enough to determine a winner as the Skyhawks and Bulldogs finished in a 17-17 tie. Johnsburg coach Dann Giesey said he had never been involved in a game like it before.

“It was one of those games where the last team to score was going to win, but darkness hit first,” Giesey said.

Jerad Grundy did not pitch but had three hits, including a triple and three RBIs for Johnsburg
(4-6-1). David Virgo doubled and had four RBIs.

McHenry 6, Burlington Central 4: At Burlington, Pat Murphy (2-1) pitched a complete game and struck out three in the Warriors’ non-conference win. Colin Hansen went 4-for-4 with a double and an RBI to lead McHenry (10-4) at the plate.

CL Central 16, Richmond-Burton 6 (5 inn.): At Crystal Lake, Jake Heckman went 2-for-3 with an RBI and three runs scored to lead the Tigers (6-4) past the Rockets (2-9) in non-conference play.

Jon Tiso went 2-for-4 with an RBI for R-B.

Prairie Ridge 4, Mundelein 0: At Mundelein, Joe Zwierzynski pitched a four-hit shutout while striking out 10, and the Wolves won the non-conference game.

David Hines and Nolan Jacoby each had RBIs for Prairie Ridge (10-4).

Marian Central 11, Alden-Hebron 1 (6 inn.): At Woodstock, Jack Kosar pitched six innings and struck out seven as the Hurricanes (6-4) earned the non-conference win. Kosar also led the Hurricanes’ offense, going 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs.

Zak Engelbrecht went 2-for-3 for A-H (5-2).

TRACK

CL Central Triangular: Mark Niemann won the pole vault (12 feet, 6 inches) and the triple jump (40-2) to pace Crystal Lake Central (87.3) in its win against Woodstock (78.6) and Grayslake North (19). Marshall Happ won the 3,200 meters (9:59) to lead Woodstock.

CL South Triangular: Bobby Swanson won the shot put (46-8) and discus (149-0) to lead McHenry (91) to a win against Crystal Lake South (48) and Jacobs (43).

Emmanual Gamez won the 100 meters (11.0) and the 400 (48.7) for South, and Jake Lawson won the high jump (5-8) and pole vault
(13-9) for Jacobs.

Dundee-Crown Triangular: At Carpentersville, Aaron Reams won three events as the Chargers (90) defeated Grayslake Central (60) and Johnsburg (31).

Reams won the 110 high hurdles (14.96), 300 intermediate hurdles (44.14) and the triple jump (45-01⁄4).

Wauconda 691⁄2, Marengo 151⁄2: At Marengo, Elijah Velasquez won the 1,600 meters (4:52.9) for the Indians in the loss.

TENNIS

McHenry 3, Grant 2: At Fox Lake, McHenry (4-1) got victories from all three of its doubles teams in a non-conference win. Szymon Linette and Mike Lenard won their No. 1 doubles match, 6-1, 4-6, 6-0.

Jacobs 3, Lake Zurich 3: At Lake Zurich, Jacobs’ Tom Schreiner (No. 1) and Nick Kaczar (No. 3) won their singles matches, and the Golden Eagles (6-1-1) tied the Bears in non-conference action.

Woodstock 7, Rockford Lutheran 0: At Woodstock, Brian Howatt won at No. 2 singles to lead the Blue Streaks (2-3) in their non-conference win.

Johnsburg 6, Marian Central 1: At Woodstock, Dan Fox won at No. 3 singles, and the Skyhawks prevailed in non-conference action.

Hononegah 4, Marengo 1: At Rockton, E.J. Naugle and Nathan Wanfalt won at No. 1 doubles for Marengo in a non-conference loss.
