Marengo softball takes title

ELGIN – Marengo’s softball team continued its strong start to the season Saturday at the St. Edward Tournament, winning all three of its games, including a 2-1 victory against Illiana Christian to win the title.

Earlier in the day, Marengo defeated Farmington, 5-4, and Chicago Christian, 6-0. Hallisey Kunde had four hits and three steals on the day for Marengo (12-1).

Batavia 2, Huntley 1: At Batavia, Sarah Clancy and Alex Albanese each had a hit for the Red Raiders (10-7) in a non-conference loss.

Marian Central 20, Jefferson 0 (5 inn.): At Rockford, Marian scored 20 runs on 26 hits in a non-conference win. Kaitlyn Bliss went 3-for-5 with a homer, and Stephanie Robson also went 3-for-5 and scored twice.

Fremd 10-8, Cary-Grove 0-1: At Palatine, Alexis Haley had a hit in both games as the Trojans got swept in a non-conference doubleheader.
Mackenzie Vaughn had two hits in the second game for C-G (5-7).

Oregon 10-6, Harvard 3-2: At Harvard, Michaela Binz had three doubles as the Hornets were swept in a Big Northern Conference crossover doubleheader. Deana Cradic scored in the second game for Harvard (4-8).

Antioch Invitational: Johnsburg went 3-1 on the day, finishing third in the eight-team event, after defeating Addison Trail, 16-1; Richmond-Burton, 3-2; and Geneva, 6-4. Amanda Daly had three home runs and two triples for Johnsburg (6-7-1). Daly also pitched 15 innings, striking out 27.

SOCCER

Harlem Tournament: At Machesney Park, Woodstock (6-5) beat Harlem, 3-2, and lost to Rockford Lutheran, 2-1. Woodstock goalkeeper Ginelle Ellis made 13 saves on the day.

Huntley 4, Hononegah 0: At Huntley, Cori Wronski scored twice as the Red Raiders won the non-conference match. Aimee Wronski scored and had two assists for Huntley (12-1).

Harvard 3, Stillman Valley 2: At Harvard, Brenda Lemus scored and had two assists as the Hornets won the BNC crossover. Rachel Thompson and Taryn Stricker scored the other goals for Harvard (5-2).

Lake Forest Shootout: Crystal Lake South (3-7) lost, 2-1, to Lakes. Natalie Blazier scored for the Gators, who went 0-3 in the event.

Antioch Tournament: Marian Central (7-1) took second with two wins Saturday. Marian beat Antioch, 2-1, as Caroline Piggot and Katie Przybysz scored. Susan Thomas had a goal and two assists in a 5-0 win against Westosha (Wis.).

Richmond-Burton Tournament: The Rockets finished second to Hampshire’s junior varsity via tiebreaker. R-B tied Hampshire, 1-1, and beat North Boone, 6-0. Blair Rummel scored against Hampshire and North Boone, and Hailey Schleibinger scored twice in the first half against North Boone.

TRACK

Geneva Invitational: Ashley Conway won the high jump (5 feet) and long jump (17-21⁄2) to help McHenry to fifth place in the seven-team meet with 63 points.

Dundee-Crown was fourth with 75 points, led by Christina Holec’s victory in the 200 meters.

Hononegah Relays: At Rockton, Woodstock (44) finished sixth out of eight teams, winning the 1,600 team event.

BADMINTON

St. Charles East Quadrangular: McHenry finished third out of four teams as the No. 3 doubles team of Megan Mehl and Alyssa Kucia went 3-0.
