Marengo pitcher throws no-hitter

WINNEBAGO – Mattie McGuire pitched a no-hitter for the Marengo softball team Monday, and the Indians beat Winnebago, 6-0, in a Big Northern Conference crossover.

McGuire (5-1), a junior, allowed only two batters for Winnebago (3-8) to reach base and struck 14. McGuire also drove in a run. Senior third baseman Amanda Knutson homered and drove in five runs for Marengo (14-1).

Cary-Grove 4, Prairie Ridge 3: At Cary, Emma Gaulke hit a two-run homer in the first inning that proved to be the game-winner for the Trojans (7-8) in an FVC crossover win.

Erika Trojan and Lauren Seegers both doubled for the Wolves (11-3).

Genoa-Kingston 4, Alden-Hebron 0: At Genoa, Carissa Stauss recorded the lone hit for Alden-Hebron (4-5) in a non-conference loss.

BOYS TENNIS

Cary-Grove 4, Conant 3: At Hoffman Estates, Cary-Grove was led by its singles players, as the Trojans (9-3) won a non-conference dual meet.

Chris Federighi won his No.1 singles match, 6-2, 6-0, and Eric Schimmel won his No. 2 singles match, 6-2, 6-0, for C-G.

Elgin Academy 4, Marengo 1: At Elgin, the No. 1 doubles team of EJ Naugle and Nathan Wanfalt earned the only win for Marengo (0-10) in a non-conference loss.


GIRLS TRACK

Prairie Ridge Triangular: Crystal Lake Central edged Johnsburg, 81-73, to win the meet. Central senior Taylor Cordes won the 400-meter run (1:03.3) and the 100 high hurdles (16.4 seconds). Kelly McNeely won the 3,200 (12:16.2) for Johnsburg.

Prairie Ridge was third with 64 points as Taylor Humm won the shot put with a throw of 100 feet,
8 inches.

Woodstock Triangular: Woodstock senior Lisa Kucharski won the 100 high hurdles (16.1) and the 400 (1:01.3) as the Blue Streaks won the meet with 80 points. McHenry took second with 67 points as sophomore Ashley Conway won both the high jump (5-0) and the long jump (15-9).

BOYS TRACK

Grayslake Central Triangular: McHenry won the Fox Valley Conference triangular with 78 points. John Schmitt won the 110 high hurdles (15.7 seconds) and the 300 intermediate hurdles (43.1) for the Warriors.

Woodstock took second with 57 points as senior Marshall Happ won the 3,200 (9:44.8).

Grayslake Central was third with 46 points.

Johnsburg Triangular: Crystal Lake Central dominated the FVC triangular meet, scoring 100 points. Johnsburg took second with 43, and Prairie Ridge was third with 41.

Central junior Ryan Alvarez won the 1,600 (4:42.6), and Anthony Niemo won the long jump (19-11⁄2) and the 300 intermediate hurdles (42.21) for the Tigers.

Johnsburg was led by Tyler Brady, who won the shot put with a throw of 48-2. Prairie Ridge sophomore Marc Di-Verde won the 3,200 (10:24.2).

BOYS WATER POLO

McHenry 25, St. Viator 9: At Arlington Heights, Jonathan Lesniak led the Warriors with nine goals, and Daniel Brucki made 11 saves for the Warriors in the victory.
