


J’burg’s Daly strikes out 17 in FVC Fox winGRAYSLAKE – Johnsburg senior pitcher Amanda Daly dominated the Grayslake Central lineup Monday in the Skyhawks’ 5-1 Fox Valley Conference Fox Division softball victory. “[Daly] was great, and they couldn’t touch her today,” Johnsburg coach Wally Warner said. “Amanda really controlled the whole game.” Daly struck out 17 and allowed two hits for the Skyhawks (8-9-1 overall, 2-1 FVC Fox). Heather Matejka led the Johnsburg offense, going 2-for-4 and driving in two runs. Grayslake Central senior first baseman Abbie Goetsch drove in the only run for the Rams (3-13, 0-3) on a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh inning. Huntley 10, CL Central 0: At Huntley, Kelsey Hagan (double, RBI) and Alex Albanese (2-for-3, RBI) led the Red Raiders (13-7, 3-0) in their FVC Fox win against the Tigers (4-9, 1-2). Sam Clemons struck out three and limited Central to two hits to earn the win. Katie Staples and Jeannine Vetter each had a hit for the Tigers. Prairie Ridge 6, Grayslake North 1: At Grayslake, Prairie Ridge (16-5, 3-0) stayed undefeated in FVC Fox play. Johanna Turner allowed only one hit in seven innings for the Wolves. Woodstock 1, Jacobs 0: At Woodstock, Taylor Schulty (3-2) earned the win for Woodstock (6-12, 2-1) as the Blue Streaks beat Jacobs (8-8, 2-1) in FVC Valley play. Schulty struck out seven in a complete-game, three-hit shutout. Marissa Lombardo (3-2) allowed only two hits and took the loss for Jacobs. Marian Central 9, Driscoll 5: At Addison, Stephanie Robson went 4-for-4 with a triple and an RBI to lead the Hurricanes (7-8, 4-1) in their Suburban Catholic Conference win. Robson struck out three to earn her first win of the season. SOCCER CL South 5, Woodstock 0: At Woodstock, Karly Mecko scored twice for South (7-8, 3-1), which defeated Woodstock (7-6, 2-3) in FVC Valley play. Ginelle Ellis made 18 saves for Woodstock. Cary-Grove 8, McHenry 1: At Cary, Korey Kronforst scored a hat-trick and had two assists for the Trojans (10-2, 4-0) in an FVC Valley win against McHenry (7-6, 1-4). Priscilla Perales scored McHenry’s lone goal. Jacobs 2, Dundee-Crown 0: At Algonquin, Emily Preis and Jackie Rosato each scored a goal for Jacobs (6-7-2, 2-2) in an FVC Valley victory against Dundee-Crown (2-10, 0-3). CL Central 2, Grayslake North 0: At Crystal Lake, Nelle Youel scored both of the goals for the Tigers Prairie Ridge 4, Grayslake Central 1: At Crystal Lake, Becca Reitz scored a goal and assisted on another, and Courtney Burrows recorded two assists for the Wolves (8-4-1, 2-2) in an FVC Fox win. Megan LeBaron scored for Grayslake Central (9-5, 3-3). Huntley 6, Johnsburg 0: At Johnsburg, Cori Wronski scored three goals and assisted on two others for the Red Raiders (13-2-1, 3-0) in an FVC Fox win against the Skyhawks. Natasha Kopystynsky made 10 saves for Johnsburg (0-9, 0-4). TRACK Prairie Ridge Triangular: At Crystal Lake, Stephanie Woods won the 1,600-meter run (5:35) and led Crystal Lake South (64 points) to the win. Prairie Ridge placed second and was led by Mary Grier’s wins in the long jump (15 feet, 61⁄2 inches) and triple jump (30-10). Grayslake Central placed third with 24 points. Burlington Central: Hollis DuBois won the shot put and discus as Richmond-Burton (70 points) placed second at the three-team Big Northern Conference meet.
