


Liebman runs record to 6-0 as Huntley prevailsHUNTLEY – Zach Liebman continued his undefeated season for Huntley on Saturday with a complete-game victory against Burlington Central. The Huntley senior allowed one earned run as the Red Raiders (17-3-1) beat the Rockets, 7-2, in a non-conference baseball game. Liebman (6-0) struck out five and allowed five hits. “Zach moved in and out on the hitters all day long,” Huntley coach Andy The Red Raiders’ offense was led by senior shortstop Nathan Sopena, who was a catalyst at the top of the lineup, going 3-for-4 and scoring a run. Huntley junior outfielder Chris Klein went 2-for-3 and drove in two runs. Palatine 11, Woodstock 5: At Woodstock, the Blue Streaks (11-10) lost to Palatine in non-conference play. Woodstock junior outfielder Tyler Weiss homered. The Blue Streaks had been scheduled to play Belvidere North, however, according to Woodstock coach John Oliveira, the game was canceled because of a case of swine flu in the Belvidere school district. Alden-Hebron 4, Maranatha Baptist 0: At Watertown, Wis., Mark Winkelman (5-1) pitched a one-hit shutout for Alden-Hebron (12-3 overall, 7-0 Indian Trails Conference). Winkelman and Zach Engelbrecht each went 2-for-4 with a run scored. BOYS TENNIS Huntley Triangular: Huntley (3-8) beat Round Lake, 4-1, and lost to Wauconda, 3-2, in non-conference play. Huntley’s Brendan Bozic won both of his matches at No. 2 singles. CL South Invitational: South’s Cam Laktash and Jared Favaro went 3-1 to earn second place in doubles. South (12) placed fourth, and Wheaton North won the eight-team event with 17 points. BOYS TRACK Palmyra (Wis.) Invitational: Richmond-Burton easily won with 192 points, St. Joseph (Wis.) was second with 88. R-B’s Ian Sanchez won the 800-meter run (2:06.81) and the 1,600 (4:37.96). Palatine Relays: Huntley was led by its discus relay team (401 feet, 7 inches) and Alex Benischa in the 1,600 (4:29) as both placed second to help the Red Raiders to a 12th-place finish (25 points). Barrington won the 17-team meet with 99 points. Prairie Ridge (18) took 13th and was led by its high-hurdle shuttle team (1:06) that placed second. Joey Cieniewicz took second in the 800 meters to lead 15th-place Jacobs (12). SOFTBALL Buffalo Grove Slugfest: Grayslake North (5-13) went 1-2 at the tournament and was led by Carly Borders, who hit a home run and two doubles and drove in four runs in the three games. GIRLS TRACK Palmyra (Wis.) Invitational: Richmond-Burton won the meet with 137 points. Sarah Finley won the long jump (15-11), the 200 (26.05 seconds) and the 100 (12.93 seconds). Palatine Relays: Prairie Ridge was led by its 4x200 relay team (1:48) that placed fourth, and Kyra Saley’s fifth-place finish in the 400 (1:02.8) as it scored seven points to place 14th.
