Parr, Kosar key Marian’s baseball win

WHEATON – The Marian Central baseball team kept its Suburban Catholic Conference title hopes alive with a 5-1 victory Tuesday against St. Francis.

The Hurricanes (14-6 overall, 9-2 SCC) received a solid pitching performance from Dave Parr (4-1), who limited the Spartans to five hits and struck out three in seven innings to earn the win.

Jack Kosar went 2-for-4 with two RBIs, and David Luczak went 2-for-3 with a run scored to lead the Marian offense, which tallied 11 hits.

Marian plays SCC leader Marmion twice next week.

Prairie Ridge 5, Grayslake North 1: At Crystal Lake, Prairie Ridge catcher Nolan Jacoby homered and drove in two runs as the Wolves (19-5, 5-0) beat Grayslake North (5-15, 1-3) in Fox Valley Conference Fox Division play. The win was the 20th consecutive in FVC play for Prairie Ridge.

Burlington Central 9, Richmond-Burton 1: At Richmond, C.J. Daniels and Harrison Daniels each went 2-for-3 as R-B (5-15, 3-4) lost in Big Northern Conference East Division play.

Hampshire 9, North Boone 4: At Poplar Grove, Ryan Dechat (3-0) struck out eight in five innings, and the Whip-Purs (14-9, 5-2) won in BNC East play. Joe Moore hit a home run and drove in two runs to lead Hampshire.

Harvard 12, Marengo 2 (6 inn.): At Marengo, Chase Blazier went 2-for-4 with five RBIs to lead Harvard (13-8, 4-2) in its BNC East win. Jake Darlington hit a double and drove in two runs for the Indians (2-17, 0-4).

Alden-Hebron 5-5, Faith Christian 1-3: At Williams Bay, Wis., the Giants (15-3, 10-0 Indian Trails Conference) remained undefeated in conference play with two wins against Faith Christian. A-H’s Mark Winkelman homered in the first game, and Zak Engelbrecht homered in the second.

CL South 7, McHenry 0: At McHenry, Cam Laktash won his No. 1 singles match, 6-3, 6-1, for the Gators in a sweep of the Warriors (7-7, 3-5) in FVC play.

Grayslake North 4, Dundee-Crown 3: At Carpentersville, Nate Campanile won his No. 1 singles match, 6-3, 6-2, for the Knights in an FVC victory against the Chargers. D-C’s Luis Bahena and Ryan Palmer won the No. 3 doubles match, 6-3, 6-7, 6-2.

CL Central 5, Cary-Grove 2: At Crystal Lake, Central’s Tyler George and Nick Severson both won singles matches for the Tigers in an FVC win against the Trojans.

C-G’s Chris Federighi won the No. 1 singles match, 6-4, 6-2.

Grayslake Central 5, Woodstock 2: At Grayslake, Mitch Granger, Ray Pienaar and Steve Kueton swept the singles matches for the Rams in an FVC victory against the Blue Streaks. Luke Kunzle and Ryan Miller won the No. 1 doubles match, 6-4, 7-5, for Woodstock.

Rockford Lutheran 3, Marengo 2: At Marengo, Marengo’s Chris Walwers won his No. 2 singles match, 6-0, 6-3, but the Indians (0-15) remained winless after a non-conference loss.

Genoa Kingston Invitational: At Genoa, Harvard’s Cody Kramer won the 100 meters (11.5 seconds) and 200 (23.46) to lead the Hornets (66.50) to a second-place finish. Marengo (45.5) placed third and was led by Dan Gillette’s winning time of 54.8 seconds in the 400. Genoa-Kingston (74) won the meet.
