Huntley clinches FVC Fox soccer title

CRYSTAL LAKE – The Huntley girls soccer team came into Thursday’s Fox Valley Conference Fox Division match against Prairie Ridge looking to clinch its third consecutive division title.

Kaylee O’Brien scored in the third minute to give the Red Raiders the lead, and Cori Wronski added a goal in the second half to give Huntley a 2-0 win against the Wolves. Wronski said it was a great feeling to win the FVC Fox title again.

“It’s awesome to keep winning, and winning the conference championship here was one of the our goals that we had, but it’s not our highest goal,” Wronski said. “Our highest goal is to try to win state.”

Wronski also added an assist for Huntley (19-1-1 overall, 9-0 FVC Fox). Kyli Humm made three saves for Prairie Ridge (12-5-1, 5-3).

CL Central 7, Johnsburg 0: At Johnsburg, Maddie Edwards scored three goals to go with three assists as the Tigers won in FVC Fox play. Central coach Josef Schroeder said that
Sam Johnson, Nelle Youel, Alexa Adams and Ashley Arendt scored the other goals for Central (7-6, 5-4), which only allowed two shots on goal to the Skyhawks (1-13-1, 1-8).

Grayslake North 1, Grays-lake Central 0: At Grayslake, Kim Shurtliff scored the lone goal of the game as the visiting Knights won the FVC Fox game against the Rams (9-8, 3-6).
Brooke Sauer made six saves for North (7-10, 3-5).

Cary-Grove 5, Dundee-Crown 1: At Carpentersville, Korey Kronforst scored twice for the Trojans as C-G clinched the FVC Valley Division title with a win against the Chargers (4-13, 2-5). Brittany Kroening, Sally Tashjian and Kelli Anderson also scored for the Trojans (14-2, 8-0).

Jacobs 3, CL South 2 (SO): At Crystal Lake, Kelsey Quitschau and Kristen Smith each scored goals as the Golden Eagles won the FVC Valley match.

Jacobs won the shootout, 4-1.

Alyssa Barnard made six saves for Jacobs (8-9-2, 4-3). Emma Dalzell and Carly Juliano scored goals for the Gators (9-10, 6-3).

McHenry 4, Woodstock 0: At McHenry, Jill Pullman had 12 saves in goal for the Warriors (7-8, 2-6) in an FVC Valley victory against the Blue Streaks (9-10,3-7). Woodstock goalkeeper Allison Wynn had eight saves.

Hampshire 6, Marengo 1: At Hampshire, Christine Schumacher had a hat trick as the Whip-Purs won the Big Northern Conference East Division match.

Cassie Dumoulin scored and had two assists for the Whips (8-2-2, 8-0). Jenna Overlee scored the only goal for the Indians
(7-7-1, 2-4-1).

Richmond-Burton 5, Harvard 1:
At Richmond, R-B freshman Hannah Condit had a hat trick in a BNC East win for the Rockets (12-2, 6-2) against the Hornets (6-7, 3-4). Taryn Stricker scored Harvard’s lone goal.

SOFTBALL

Prairie Ridge 3, Huntley 1: Johanna Turner (19-4) notched her 19th win of the season as the Wolves (21-5, 8-0) stayed undefeated in FVC Fox play, beating the Red Raiders (16-10, 6-3). Samantha Clemons took the loss despite striking out six in seven innings.

Johnsburg 5, CL Central 2: At Johnsburg, Amanda Daly struck out 11 as the Skyhawks won the FVC Fox game.

Daly added two RBIs and scored a run for the Skyhawks (12-10, 6-2). Brittany York homered and had two RBIs for the Tigers (4-14, 1-7).

CL South 6, Jacobs 2: At Crystal Lake, Gators pitcher Emily Mahoney earned the win, striking out seven and walking three, and adding a two-run homer to power South past the Golden Eagles in an FVC Valley game.

Samantha Hardie went 2-for-3 with an RBI, Kaitlin Hardie went 1-for-2 with a double, and Liz Adams was 1-for-2 with a triple for the Gators (17-6, 5-3).

Jacobs’ Marissa Lombardo was 1-for-3 with an RBI and pitched six innings, scattering six hits and striking out five.

Cary-Grove 6, Dundee-Crown 3: At Cary, Emma Gaulke pitched seven innings and struck out eight to earn the victory for the Trojans (11-12, 4-4) in the FVC Valley win against the Chargers (4-13, 0-7). Melissa Summaria went 2-for-3 for D-C.

Marengo 11, Richmond-Burton 1 (5 inn.): At Marengo, Hallisey Kunde had four hits and scored three times as the Indians won the BNC East game.

Danielle Simons scored twice and knocked in three runs for Marengo (20-1, 6-1). Bree Roberts had the lone RBI for the Rockets (1-19, 0-6).

Harvard 13, Hampshire 6: At Hampshire, Alyssa Stephens scored a run and had three RBIs as the Hornets won the BNC East game.

Brittany Fitke doubled, tripled and had four RBIs for Harvard (5-12, 3-4). Grace Jakubowski had two hits for the Whip-Purs (3-7, 1-3).

TRACK

Suburban Catholic Conference Meet: At Aurora, Stephanie Curran won the 800 meters (2:32.10) to lead Marian Central (771⁄3) to a fourth-place finish in the eight-team event, won by Rosary (220).
