


A-H pitcher Winkelman blanks R-BRICHMOND – Alden-Hebron’s baseball team added another impressive win to an already impressive season Friday, defeating Richmond-Burton, 5-0, in a non-conference matchup. The Giants (19-3) were led by senior Mark Winkelman (8-1), who pitched a three-hit shutout and struck out 16. “Mark pitched really well, and it was a big night for him,” A-H coach Ken Winkelman said. “Mark allowed only three base-runners, and when they were on, he managed those situations well.” Winkelman also contributed at the plate with a home run and two RBIs. Tyler Volling took the loss for the Rockets (10-17), despite striking out 10 in six innings. BOYS TENNIS Fox Valley Conference Tournament: Rain washed out the opening day of the tournament. Play is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. today at Crystal Lake Central, Crystal Lake South and Prairie Ridge. McHenry coach Kyle Funkhouser said he hoped to get in the championship and third-place matches today in the three singles and four doubles divisions. The consolation bracket, which includes fifth- through 12th-place matches, likely will need to be completed Monday, he said. Although the tournament is being played at the three Crystal Lake schools, McHenry is serving as the host team.
