McHenry to state water polo Elite 8

BARRINGTON – McHenry’s boys water polo team is one of eight teams left in the state tournament after a mild upset Saturday in the Barrington Sectional final.

Graham Olsen scored four goals to lead second-seeded McHenry to a 12-11 victory against top-seeded Schaumburg.

BASEBALL

Marengo 13-8, Rockford Lutheran 12-7: At Marengo, the Indians used some timely hitting to sweep a doubleheader from Rockford Lutheran.

In the first game, Jordan Hernandez went 3-for-4 and Scott Smith went 3-for-3 to lead Indains. Marengo had 11 hits and scored a run in the bottom of the seventh to win. Jake Tucker earned the win.

In the second game David Diedrick earned the win, Jordan Hernandez went 2-for-4 and Scott Smith went 2-for-4 to lead the Indians (4-21).

Jacobs 6, McHenry 2: At McHenry, Ben Albano and Mark Self each hit home runs for the Golden Eagles (12-19, 4-7), and they defeated the Warriors (20-10, 7-4) in Fox Valley Conference Valley Division action. Nick Pavino struck out seven and earned the win for Jacobs.

McHenry was led by Pat Murphy, who was 2-for-3, and Matt Rogers, who had an RBI. Colin Hansen (5-5) struck out seven in taking the loss.

Woodstock 4, Cary-Grove 3: At Cary, Ryan Brown struck out 11 and held the Trojans to three hits to earn the FVC Valley win. Garrret Gee hit a two-run home run to lead Woodstock (13-16, 4-8).

C-G (22-7-1, 9-2) was led by Eric Chandler, who had an RBI.

CL South 4, Dundee-Crown 2: At Crystal Lake, Easton Kowalski (5-3) struck out five and earned the win for the Gators (19-10, 7-4) against the Chargers (5-19, 2-9) in FVC Fox action. James Vazquez went 2-for-3 with an RBI to lead South.

Brendon Schumacher hit a home run to lead D-C.

Grayslake North 4, Huntley 3 (9 inn.): At Grayslake, Tanner Funke (7-3) struck out six over 2 1/3 innings but gave up an unearned run and took the loss for the Red Raiders (23-6-1, 9-3) against the Knights (9-19, 4-7) in FVC Fox action.
Huntley was led by Phil Pupillo who went 3-for-5 with a double and an RBI and Garrick Penrod who went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI as it rallied to tie the game after being down, 3-0, after the first inning.

Antioch 15-8, Richmond-Burton 0-1: At Antioch, the Rockets (10-19) dropped both ends on of a non-conference doubleheader to the Sequoits.

TENNIS

Big Northern Conference Tournament: At Hampshire, Marengo’s Chris Wilwers went 2-0 at No. 1 singles, and the Indians defeated Hampshire, 3-2, but lost to Rockford Lutheran, 3-2. Hampshire defeated Rockford Lutheran, 3-2, and was led by its No. 3 doubles team of Dan Aguirre and Zack Temple, who went 2-0.
