Marian girls soccer team advances to regional final

WOODSTOCK – Marian Central’s girls soccer team advanced to the IHSA Class 2A Marian Central Regional championship game with a 4-0 win Monday against fourth-seeded Johnsburg (1-15-1).

After a scoreless first half, the top-seeded Hurricanes (14-4) scored four goals in the second half. The first goal coming one minute into the second half on a corner kick by Katie Przybysz.

Brittany Wuensch, Katie Hanranhan and Harmony Kenzoira also scored for the ’Canes.

Marian will play the winner of today’s game between Richmond-Burton and Wauconda at 4 p.m. Friday.

SOFTBALL

Jacobs 2, Woodstock 0: At Woodstock, Katie Kirker struck out 11 as the Golden Eagles won in Fox Valley Conference Valley Division play.

Brook Frederiksen had a triple for Jacobs (18-11, 8-4). Taylor Schulty took the loss, giving up two runs for Woodstock (11-18, 7-6).

McHenry 7, Dundee-Crown 0: At Carpentersville, Melanie Love (0-2) struck out nine for D-C (4-21, 0-12) as the Chargers lost to the Warriors (21-6, 8-3) in FVC Valley play. The Chargers were limited to three hits.

Prairie Ridge 3, Grayslake North 2: At Grayslake, Johanna Turner (24-4) struck out 12 and limited the Knights (7-19, 3-10) to four hits, and the Wolves (26-6 12-0) remained undefeated in FVC Fox action. Lexi Wachman went 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Angie Rinn went 1-for-2 with a double and an RBI to lead Prairie Ridge.

Huntley 6, CL Central 3: At Huntley, Deana DeBosschere went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, and Sam Clemons went 2-for-3 with two RBIs to lead the Red Raiders in their FVC Fox win against the Tigers (5-17, 2-10).

Clemons struck out six to earn the win for Huntley (19-10, 9-3).

Grayslake Central 5, Johnsburg 4 (9 inn.): At Grayslake, Abbie Goetsch hit a home run and drove in three runs, including the game-winning RBI, to lead the Rams (8-18, 4-8) in their FVC Fox win. Monika Wedick pitched a complete game to earn the victory.

Amanda Daly struck out 17 for Johnsburg
(13-15, 7-6).

Montini 4, Marian Central 1: At Lombard, Michelle Speaker and Stephanie Robson each went 1-for-2 as the Hurricanes (8-13, 4-7) lost in Suburban Catholic Conference play.

IHSA Class 1A South Beloit Regional: Hayli Lagerhausen struck out 10 as fourth-seeded Alden-Hebron (11-10) lost to fifth-seeded South Beloit.

BASEBALL

Cary-Grove 9, CL South 6: At Cary, Luke Mottashed homered twice and drove in four runs to lead the Trojans (24-7-1, 9-2) to an FVC Valley win. Matt Nelsen (9-0) struck out three to earn the win.

Ian Gardeck went 2-for-4 with a double, a home run and two RBIs to lead South (19-10, 7-4).

Jacobs 6, Woodstock 3: At Woodstock, Jake Vojtsek went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored to lead the Golden Eagles (12-20, 5-7) to an FVC Valley win.

Garrett Gee went 2-for-4 with an RBI and took the loss for Woodstock (13-17, 4-9)

Dundee-Crown 8, McHenry 7: At Carpentersville, Willy Larsen and Brendan Schumacher each went 2-for-4 with a double to lead the Chargers (6-20, 3-9) in their FVC Valley comeback win.

McHenry (19-11, 6-5) let a 6-1, first-inning lead slip away.

Prairie Ridge 14, Grayslake North 1 (5 inn.): At Grays-lake, Kevin Kaczmarski went 2-for-4 with four RBIs to lead the Wolves (26-6, 11-1) to an FVC Fox win. Joe Zwierzynski (8-3) struck out four to earn the win.

Huntley 3, CL Central 0: At Huntley, Zach Liebman (8-1) allowed one hit as the Red Raiders (24-6, 10-3) earned an FVC Fox win against the Tigers (14-15, 5-7).

Grayslake Central 6, Johnsburg 4: At Grayslake, Kurt Schmidt broke a 3-3 tie with an RBI double in the sixth, and the Rams (17-12, 5-6) beat the Skyhawks in FVC Fox action. Jerad Grundy took the loss for Johnsburg (6-21, 1-10).

Marian Central 15, Richmond-Burton 4 (5 inn.): At Richmond, Jack Kosar went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run to lead the Hurricanes (16-9) to a non-conference victory against the Rockets (10-20).

Sycamore 12, Hampshire 2 (5 inn.): At Hampshire, Bo Price went 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs to lead Hampshire (17-11) in its non-conference loss.

Harvard 9, Alden-Hebron 2: At Harvard, Collin Nolen limited the Giants (20-4) to two hits in four innings to earn the non-conference win against the Hornets (18-9).

BOYS TENNIS

Hampshire 3, St. Edward 2: At Hampshire, Johhny Bieber and Luis Sandoval won at No. 1 doubles to lead the Whip-Purs (5-11) to a non-conference win.
