Athletes of the week

BOYS

Anthony Manfrin

Dundee-Crown, sophomore

Manfrin anchored the Chargers’ winning 4x800-meter relay team, then came back to win the 1,600-meter run at the IHSA Class 3A Hononegah Sectional Meet last week, qualifying for state in both events.

Manfrin battled Woodstock’s Marshall Happ in the 1,600, winning in 4:15.77.

GIRLS

Kayla Beattie

Woodstock, sophomore

Beattie accomplished a difficult double by taking sixth place in the Class 3A 3,200-meter run, then finishing in seventh place in the 1,600 at the IHSA Girls Track and Field State Meet at Eastern Illinois University’s O’Brien Stadium.

Beattie ran a 10:56.70 in the 3,200 and a 5:03.05 in the 1,600.

The Class 2A preliminaries start this morning, with the Class 3A taking place this afternoon. The finals in Classes 1A, 2A and 3A run in order Saturday.
