Northwest Herald All-Area Girls Soccer TeamNorthwest Herald All-Area First Team Cori Wronski Christine Schumacher Hampshire, sr., F Schumacher overcame two serious injuries – an ACL tear in 2007 and a miniscus tear in 2008 – in order to make her senior season with the Whip-Purs a special one. The Whips went 10-0 in the Big Northern Conference East Division, and Schumacher finished with 24 goals and five assists. Aimee Wronski Nelle Youel Few scorers in the area were as crafty as Youel, and few had such a competitive edge. Youel worked tirelessly on a Tigers team that won its first regional title and finish third in the FVC Fox Division. Youel was one of only two players to score against Huntley in FVC Fox play. She finished with 14 goals and 13 assists. Sally Tashjian Tashjian embodied what coach Ray Krystal stresses to all of his players each season: Selflessness. Tashjian finished the season with seven goals and three assists and her career with 22 goals and nine assists. She will continue her soccer career at Loyola University in Chicago. Bre Burry Burry was one of the biggest reasons the Raiders had such a strong midfield. She was dangerous in many one-on-one situations and created opportunities for the Raiders’ forwards with her skill and her speed. Burry finished with 10 assists and two goals in the Raiders’ 24-2 season. Maggie Olsen Olsen’s ability to read the game made her one of the most versatile players on coach David O’Leary’s roster, as he felt he could move Olsen to nearly any position and she would thrive. Olsen spent most of her time in the midfield for the Wolves, who finished second in the FVC Fox Division and went 13-5-1 overall. Blair Rummel The Rockets enjoyed a strong season, and Rummel was perhaps the most valuable all-around player on the team, finishing with seven goals and 15 assists – the latter statistic a testament to her soccer acumen. Rummel helped the Rockets finish 15-4-2 overall and 8-2 in the BNC East Division. Alyse Williams Williams helped the Raiders shut out 10 of their 15 opponents. Kelsey Taldone Taldone’s task was not simple this season, as South played one of the toughest non-conference schedules in the area and Taldone marked opponents’ best players. She helped sister and South goalkeeper, Jessica Taldone, to seven shutouts this season and was dominant in one-on-one situations. Alex Holland Holland finished her career at C-G with a 0.5-goals- against average and led the Trojans to a combined 33-5 record during the past two seasons. Holland registered 12 shutouts this season and 41 in her career. Holland also received consideration for Player of the Year. She will continue her soccer career at the University of South Carolina.
