Grayslake Cent. falls in Class 3A

JOLIET – Joliet Catholic’s Kendall Paluch struck out seven and allowed five hits as the Hilltoppers defeated Grayslake Central, 4-1, in their IHSA Class 3A Baseball State Tournament semifinal Friday at Silver Cross Field.

Steve Cservenyak homered for Joliet Catholic (31-5), which took third place last year. Andrew Cecchi and John Gerl also had RBIs for the Hilltoppers.

Grayslake Central (25-16) got two hits and an RBI from Jackson White.

Aaron Snyder (10-3) allowed five hits and took the loss for the Rams.

Grayslake Central will face LaSalle-Peru (33-4) in the third-place game at
9 a.m. today.

Chatham Glenwood 2, LaSalle-Peru 1: Tim Sullivan singled in Jared Turner in the bottom of the eighth inning to give the Titans (32-5) the victory and a spot in the championship game against Joliet Catholic at
1 p.m. today.

Bryce Sablotny (4-0) threw a seven-hit complete game for Glenwood.

Class 4A

St. Rita 4, O’Fallon 0: Shane Conlon threw a four-hitter to lead the Mustangs (31-10) past the Panthers (35-6). Mark Payton was 3-for-3 with two RBIs for St. Rita.

SOFTBALL

Oak Forest 4, Burlington Central 0: At East Peoria, Emily Norton struck out 13, and Oak Forest defeated Burlington Central in the semifinals of the IHSA Class 3A Softball State Tournament.

Oak Forest (30-4) will face Chatham Glenwood (28-8) in the championship game at noon today.

MacKenzie Scott took the loss for the Rockets (25-6) despite allowing no earned runs and three hits and striking out eight.

Burlington will face Glenbard South (24-13) in the third-place game at 9:30 a.m. today.

Chatham Glenwood 4, Glenbard South 2: Chatham Glenwood broke a 2-2 tie with two runs in the top of the seventh to defeat Glenbard South.

Class 4A

Loyola 1, Fremd 0 (8 inn.): Devin Miller pitched a no-hitter, and Loyola Academy defeated Fremd in eight innings in the Class 4A semifinals. The only run scored on a throwing error.

Loyola (35-2) will face Edwardsville (36-4) in the championship game at 7 p.m. today. Naperville Central (31-7) will take on Fremd (32-5) in the third-place game at 4:30 p.m. today.

Edwardsville 2, Naperville Central 0: Edwardsville advanced behind Lauren Francis’ no-hitter.
