


Grayslake Central finishes 3rd in 3AJOLIET – Kevin O’Rourke allowed one run in 61⁄3 innings, and Grayslake Central defeated LaSalle-Peru, 9-1, on Saturday in the third-place game of the IHSA Class 3A Baseball State Tournament at Silver Cross Field. O’Rourke (4-5) struck out four and walked one. Kevin DeRue pitched the final two outs for the Rams (26-16). Sean Seiler and Chris Brown each had two RBIs for Grayslake Central, which was making its first appearance at state. LaSalle-Peru (33-5) scored its only run in the fifth inning. Joliet Catholic 3, Chatham Glenwood 2: Joliet Catholic scored three runs in the top of the sixth inning to erase a 1-0 deficit, and the Hilltoppers defeated Chatham Glenwood (32-6) to win the Class 3A championship. Steve Cservenyak’s two-run single was the big blow for Joliet Catholic (32-5), which won its second state baseball title. The Hilltoppers won the Class AA title in 1994. Class 4A New Trier 4, Chicago St. Rita 3: Eli Anderson stranded the tying run at second base in the top of the seventh to earn a save, and New Trier won the Class 4A championship. Jake Carrow’s run-scoring double in the bottom of the third broke a 3-3 tie for the Trevians (32-7), who won their second state championship. New Trier won the Class AA title in 2000. Shane Conlon had two RBIs for St. Rita (35-7).
Loyola 2, Edwardsville 0: At East Peoria, Devin Miller tossed a three-hit shutout, and Loyola Academy (36-2) defeated Edwardsville (36-5) to win the Class 4A championship, the Ramblers’ first state softball title. In a matchup of pitchers who threw no-hitters in the semifinals Friday, Miller struck out nine and walked none, and Edwardsville’s Lauren Francis allowed three hits and one walk. She struck out six. Fremd 3, Naperville Central 2: Fremd (33-5) scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning after Naperville Central (31-8) scored once in the top of the first, and Fremd won the Class 4A third-place game. Class 3A Oak Forest 7, Chatham Glenwood 1: Emily Norton struck out 11 and allowed one run on five hits and a walk to help Oak Forest (31-4) defeat Chatham Glenwood (28-9) for the Class 3A championship in its first trip to state. Burlington Central 3, Glenbard South 1: Burlington Central scored twice in the bottom of the six inning to break a 1-1 tie, and the Rockets (26-6) held on to beat Glenbard South (24-14) in the Class 3A third-place game. Mackenzie Scott struck out 11 and allowed four hits and three walks for Burlington. |
