


Gust helps ’Canes blow by Zee-BeesWAUCONDA – Marian Central’s boys soccer team started on the right foot in the Wauconda Tournament on Tuesday with a 3-1 opening-round win against Zion-Benton. Kyle Gust led the Hurricanes (7-0) with two second-half goals and an assist after a scoreless first half. Andrew Hull made eight saves in goal for the Hurricanes. Grant Invitational: Ivan Pichardo and Colin Carpenter both scored for the Hornets in a 2-1 victory against the Bulldogs. Lake Park Invitational: At Downers Grove, Crystal Lake South beat Downers Grove North, 2-0, to extended the Gators’ winning streak to five games behind two goals from senior forward Jon Gutmann. The Gators improved to 3-0 in the tournament. David Walsh nabbed three saves to record his third shutout of the season for South (5-0).
GOLF CL Central 148, Grayslake North 172: At Turnberry in Lakewood, Riley Bauman fired a 2-under-par 34 for the Tigers (2-0) in a Fox Valley Conference win against the Knights (0-4). The Tigers had three other players shoot 38s: Joe Kallenbach, J.B. Garoufalis and Corbin Murphy. CL South 161, Huntley 184: At Crystal Lake Country Club, Jordan Dotson shot a 2-over 37 to lead the Gators (3-0, 3-0) in their FVC win against the Red Raiders (0-3, 0-3). Ryan Craig shot a 44 to lead Huntley (0-3, 0-3). McHenry 166, Woodstock 178: At McHenry Country Club, Will Stastny of McHenry and Jamie Hagen of Woodstock each shot 2-over 37s to tie for-medalist honors in the Warriors’ (3-0, 3-0) FVC win against the Blue Streaks. Hampshire 172, Harvard 208: At Oak Club in Genoa, Grant Yoder shot an even-par 36 to take medalist honors for the Whips (2-0, 1-0), who beat the Hornets in a Big Northern Conference matchup. Harvard’s top score was turned in by Ryan Knop with a 48. Marengo 177, Oregon 220: At Marengo Ridge, Frank Cusimano’s 2-over 38 led the Indians (5-2, 2-0) in a BNC win.
