


Humm leads PR volleyball to victoryCRYSTAL LAKE – Senior outside hitter Taylor Humm led the Prairie Ridge girls volleyball team to its first win of the season, a 25-17, 25-20 victory against Lake Zurich on Tuesday. “Taylor [Humm] is a very solid all-around player for us,” Prairie Ridge coach Stefanie Otto said. “Tonight, we moved her to the right side, and it really helped.” Humm had six kills and nine digs for the Wolves (1-1) in their non-conference win. “We played a lot better tonight, and I think this team is still learning to play together,” Otto said. Prairie Ridge senior setter Taylor Brauneis added six kills. CL Central 2, Jacobs 0: At Crystal Lake, Amelia Anderson had nine kills and was helped by Tracy Friel’s 20 assists for the Tigers (2-0) in a 25-8, 25-9 Fox Valley Conference crossover win against the Golden Eagles (0-1). Mattie Stearns had eight digs for Jacobs. McHenry 2, Grayslake Central 0: At Grayslake, Danielle Tonyan led the Warriors (1-0) with eight kills in their 25-20, 25-12 FVC crossover win. CL South 2, Grayslake North 0: At Grayslake, the Gators were led by Hannah Burkle’s six kills and Caitlin Schumacher’s five serving aces in a 25-6, 25-11 FVC crossover victory. Huntley 2, Woodstock North 0: At Woodstock, the Red Raiders (2-1) defeated the Thunder in FVC crossover play, 25-11, 25-11, and were led by Amy Fanella’s six digs and Ashley Smith’s seven kills. Christina Bravos and Kareese Goetz each had five kills for the Thunder (0-1). Woodstock 2, Dundee-Crown 0: At Woodstock, Christie Jacobson had six aces and six kills for the Blue Streaks in a 27-25, 25-22 FVC crossover victory. Richmond-Burton 2, Antioch 1: At Antioch, the Rockets rallied to win the third game of their 25-10, 22-25, 25-12 non-conference win. Tracy Holian had 18 assists and three aces, and Chloe Fiedler and Kim Russell each had eight kills for R-B (1-0). Caitlin Richert paced the Rockets’ defense with 12 digs. Wauconda 2, Marengo 0: At Marengo, Indians junior Morgan Bartlett had 12 assists and 16 digs for the Indians (0-1) in a 25-20, 25-14 non-conference loss. TENNIS CL Central 7, McHenry 0: At Crystal Lake, Central’s Nelle Youel won her No. 1 singles match against Emma Romme in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0, as the Tigers (2-1, 2-1 FVC) beat the Warriors (1-2, 0-2). McHenry’s No. 2 doubles team of Kim Blanchard and Mary Wismer took Central’s Meagan O’Donnell and Becca Ross to three sets, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4, in the loss. Prairie Ridge 6, Grayslake North 1: At Grayslake, Allison Murphy won at No. 2 singles, and Alyssa Fetzner won at No. 3 singles to lead the Wolves to an FVC win. Marian Central 4, Marengo 2: At Marengo, the Hurricanes were led by Kacie Terranova’s win at No. 1 singles as they defeated the Indians in non-conference action. Brenda Becker and Kristen Smith won at No. 2 doubles to lead Marengo (4-5). GOLF Hampshire Triangular: At Oak Club in Genoa, Taylor Ellett shot a 4-over-par 40 to lead the Whip-Purs (6-0, 2-0) to a first-place finish with 207 strokes. Sam Herley shot a 62 to lead Harvard, which finished with 266 strokes and in third place. Hinckley-Big Rock (226) finished second. CROSS COUNTRY Hampshire Triangular: Hampshire’s Cassie Kruse won the race in 19:58 as the Whip-Purs took the top spot with 25 points, beating Genoa-Kingston (44) and Westminster Christian (61).
