Elletts propel Whips past R-B’s golf team

GENOA CITY, Wis. – The Hampshire girls golf team continued its strong start to the season Wednesday at Nippersink as the defending Big Northern Conference champs beat Richmond-Burton, 204-224, in conference play.

“We hung in there and played well on the road today,” Hampshire coach Sue Ellett said.

The Whip-Purs (7-0) were led by Taylor Ellett, who shot even-par after a double bogey on the first hole and finished as the medalist with a 2-over-par 39.

Her sister, Connie Ellett, finished second with a 44, while Jessie Van Dorin shot a 56 and Karla Vietinghoff had a 65 to round out the Whips’ scores.

Bree Roberts had the low round for the Rockets with a 49.

Byron 213, Marengo 243: At Prairie View in Byron, Hayley Keil shot a 17-over 53 to lead the Indians (5-3, 2-1) in their loss in BNC play.

CL Central 193, Johnsburg 265: At Chapel Hill in McHenry, Ashley Booth shot an 11-over-par 46 for the Tigers (4-0, 2-0) in their Fox Valley Conference win against the Skyhawks (0-4, 0-3). Andrea Lindal’s 60 led Johnsburg.

Huntley 184, Jacobs 226: At Randall Oaks in West Dundee, Red Raiders senior Katlyn Anderberg took medalist honors with a 1-over-par 36 as Huntley (1-1, 1-0) beat Jacobs in FVC action. Maria Tamburrino shot the low round for the Golden Eagles with a 52.

Marian Central 182, Carmel 192: At Boone Creek in Bull Valley, Samantha Leicht and Stephanie Pettit both shot 43 to lead the Hurricanes (3-0).

VOLLEYBALL

Hampshire 2, Rockford Lutheran 0: At Rockford, Amy Wehrs had six kills and seven aces for the Whip-Purs (1-0) in their 25-16, 25-22 win against the Crusaders (1-1).

Dundee-Crown 2, Streamwood 0: At Streamwood, the Chargers (1-2) got six kills from Rebecca Wika in their
25-15, 25-22 win.

TENNIS

Johnsburg 7, Dundee-Crown 0: At Carpentersville, the Skyhawks (2-0, 2-0) swept the Chargers (0-6, 0-2) in FVC action. Heather Matejka beat Ale Ballester, 6-2, 6-1, in the No. 1 singles match.

CL South 4, Rolling Meadows 3: At Crystal Lake, Marisa Thome, Rachel Siemon, and Rachel Boorom won their singles matches, and the Gators (4-0) earned a non-conference win.

Marian Central 5, Rockford Lutheran 0: At Woodstock, Kacie Terranova prevailed at No. 1 singles to lead the Hurricanes to a non-conference win.
