Abbey Heredia
Cary-Grove senior setter

Heredia turned in a solid performance in a Fox Valley Conference crossover against Crystal Lake Central on Thursday with 29 assists in the Trojans’ win.

Heredia followed it by helping the Trojans win the Jacobs Golden Eagle Invitational on Saturday, where she racked up 112 assists.

Noteworthy

Short leave: Hampshire coach Karen Whitehouse expects to be back on the bench within the next week, assistant coach Andy Lindley said.

Whitehouse had her second child, a girl, Tuesday and was not at the Golden Eagle Invite on Saturday with the team.

Senior Chrissy Heine also expects to be back in the Whip-Purs’ lineup sometime soon, she said. Heine is recovering from surgery to repair a torn meniscus, she said.

This non-conference match features one of the premier teams in the Big Northern Conference East Division against one of the best in the FVC.

Crystal Lake Central at Prairie Ridge, 6:30 p.m. Thursday

These rivals face one another for the first time this season in FVC Fox Division action.

Prairie Ridge Invitational, begins at 9 a.m. Saturday

This round-robin tournament features perennial power Naperville Central, reigning Class 4A state champion St. Charles East, the host Wolves, Cary-Grove, Fenwick and Barrington.
