Athlete of the Week

JUSTIN PEETE

Johnsburg, senior
Running back-defensive back

Peete hardly could be stopped in the second half Friday. He rushed for four touchdowns in the Skyhawks’ 42-28 victory against Jacobs.

Peete rushed 19 times for 106 yards, 81 of which came in the second half. Johnsburg rallied from a 28-21 halftime deficit to win the Fox Valley Conference crossover game.

Peete scored his first touchdown on a 2-yard run just before halftime. He scored on runs of 21, 23 and 6 yards in the second half.

Noteworthy

Lights out: The southwest bank of lights at Jacobs Athletic Field went out in the second quarter of Friday night’s FVC crossover game between Johnsburg and Jacobs.

At halftime, the officials told both coaches that they would turn teams around once they crossed the 50-yard line so they could go toward the lighted north end zone. The other three banks remained lit for the rest of the game.

It was the second week in a row that bank had gone out.

Center of attention: Marian Central center Will Haas suffered an injury to his left knee in Friday’s 47-0 loss to Cary-Grove. Haas, who also starts at defensive tackle, hopes the injury is a partially torn MCL, which could keep him out two to four weeks.

“The trainer thought it was hard to tell [Friday night], but [Saturday morning] when there was no pain in the back of my knee, he thought the ACL was OK,” Haas said.

Haas will have an MRI on the knee Tuesday to determine how much damage was done. The 6-foot-2, 235-pound senior hopes to return before the end of the regular season.
