Huntley downs McHenry in girls volleyball

McHENRY – McHenry’s girls volleyball team gave Huntley a scare, but the Red Raiders proved to be too much Thursday in a three-set Fox Valley Conference Valley Division victory.

McHenry (5-3, 1-1 FVC Valley) won the second game, 25-17, after losing the opener, 25-18, but Huntley (8-4, 1-1) rebounded to win the third game, 25-17.

Amanda Smith led Huntley in kills with eight, and Amanda Carroll added 18 assists.

McHenry’s Danielle Tonyan collected a match-high 13 digs, and teammate Storm Melnick had 22 assists.

CL Central 2, Grayslake Central 0: At Crystal Lake, the Tigers defeated Grayslake Central, 25-10, 25-15, in FVC Fox action.

Johnsburg 2, Woodstock 0: At Johnsburg, Kelsey Nobilio led the Skyhawks (7-4, 3-0) with 16 digs, and Johnsburg won the FVC Fox match, 25-20, 26-24. Johnsburg’s Megan Davis and Madeline Scharf racked up 10 assists each.

Prairie Ridge 2, Grayslake North 0: At Grayslake, Taylor Brauneis had seven kills, and Lexie Weidner added six digs and 13 assists to give the Wolves (8-3, 3-0) a 25-10, 25-20 FVC Fox win.

Cary-Grove 2, Jacobs 0: At Cary, Alyssa Ehrhardt led Jacobs with three aces, and Rebecca Jobst added eight digs, but the Golden Eagles (3-8, 0-2) lost to the Trojans (13-1, 2-0) 25-13, 25-18 in FVC Valley play.

Burlington Central 2, Harvard 0: At Harvard, Katarina Rotta had 13 assists and Marcy Nystrom collected 21 digs for the Hornets (6-4, 0-1), who lost, 25-16, 26-24 in a Big Northern Conference East Division match.


TENNIS

McHenry 7, Woodstock North 0: At McHenry, Emma Romme beat Lindsey Rector, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 1 singles, and teammate Lauren Vannoy defeated Jessica Kaluza, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 2 singles to help the Warriors defeat the Thunder.

Kim Blanchard and Mary Wiser beat Kat Gabrielson and Lark Meiners, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 1 doubles for McHenry (9-5, 5-3).

CL South 5, Johnsburg 2: At Johnsburg, Marisa Thome won at No. 1 singles to lead the Gators (9-0, 8-0) to an FVC win.

Brenna Decker and Steph Nemec won at No. 2 doubles for Johnsburg (8-1, 6-1).

Grayslake North 4, Huntley 3: At Grayslake, Huntley’s Bri Roeser won her No. 2 single match, and Kayla Garcia won her No. 3 singles match. The No. 1 doubles match was won by Huntley’s Sam Chapman and Lydia Jiang.

Grayslake Central 6, Dundee-Crown 1: At Grayslake, the Rams swept doubles play to defeat Dundee-Crown in FVC play. Alejandra Ballester won the No. 1 singles match for D-C.

CL Central 6, Cary-Grove 1: At Cary, Nelle Youel (No. 1 singles) didn’t lose a game as the Tigers (6-5, 5-2) defeated the Trojans (5-6, 3-4) in FVC play. Cary-Grove’s Elizabeth Powers and Elizabeth Leanertz won in No. 1 doubles.

Rosary 4, Marian Central 1: At Aurora, the No. 3 doubles team of Erika Hedlin and Rachel Smith recorded the only victory for the Hurricanes.


GOLF

Richmond-Burton 219, Harvard 231: At Nippersink in Genoa City, Wis., Lauren Smith shot a 50 to lead the Rockets to a Big Northern Conference win.

Michaela Binz led the Hornets with a 52.

Hampshire 190, Marengo 235: At Marengo Ridge, Connie Ellett took medalist honors for the Whip-Purs with a 4-over-par 40, and Taylor Ellett added a 42.

Hayley Keil led the Indians with a 53.
