Jacobs tops Huntley in soccer

HUNTLEY – Taylor Pignataro scored a goal and added an assist Thursday, and Jacobs defeated Huntley, 3-1, in a key Fox Valley Conference Valley Division boys soccer match.

Nick Brownell scored for Huntley (4-5-2 overall, 2-2 FVC Valley), which fell a game behind Jacobs (4-4-2, 3-1). Jacobs is tied for second with Crystal Lake South, a game behind first-place Cary-Grove.

CL South 3, McHenry 0: At Mc­Henry, Carey Bienert scored a goal and had two assists in the second half as the Gators (10-1-1, 3-1) shut out the Warriors (3-5-1, 1-4) in FVC Valley play.

Cary-Grove 5, Dundee-Crown 0: At Carpentersville, John Guay scored two goals in the second half in an FVC Valley win for the Trojans (6-1, 4-0) against the Chargers (2-6-1, 0-4). Matt Latawiec added a goal and an assist, and Will Higgins collected two saves for C-G.

Prairie Ridge 5, Woodstock North 0: At Woodstock, Cole Geissel scored two goals, and Alberto Ocampo, Alex Polizzi and Jack Hogan also scored in an FVC Fox win for the Wolves (6-5-1, 6-0) against the Thunder (0-10, 0-6), who got 15 saves from goalkeeper Justin Kruczeck.

CL Central 3, Woodstock 1: At Crystal Lake, Vital Garcia assisted Matt Arico and Sam Kruse on goals in an FVC Fox win for the Tigers (8-4-1, 4-2). Christian Harvey scored for the Blue Streaks (4-8, 2-3).

Johnsburg 5, Grayslake North 2: At Grayslake, Chris Myers assisted on both Grayslake North (2-9, 1-4) goals, but Johnsburg (5-3, 5-1) earned the FVC Fox win.

Marian Central 5, Sycamore 0: At Woodstock, Kyle Gust scored two goals and assisted on two more in a non-conference win for the Hurricanes (12-1, 2-0). Tyler Lundquist scored two goals, and Trevor Deidrich added two assists.

GOLF

Hampshire 168, Marengo 182: At Marengo Ridge, Grant Yoder and Jeff Cohn both shot 3-over-par 39 to lead the Whip-Purs (6-2, 5-2) to a Big Northern Conference win.
Riley Kenny shot a 43 to lead the Indians.

Richmond-Burton 175, Harvard 204: At Plum Tree in Harvard, Richmond-Burton’s Cam Owen earned medalist honors with a 4-over-par 40 for the Rockets (3-6, 3-6) in a BNC win against Harvard.

Jacobs 148, Prairie Ridge 156: At Prairie Isle in Prairie Grove, Prairie Ridge’s Brad Hyland and Jacobs’ Josh Kopka shared medalist honors, shooting 3-under-par 33. Jacobs (5-1. 5-1) defeated Prairie Ridge (6-2, 6-2) by eight strokes in the FVC matchup.

Johnsburg 163, Huntley 171: At Pinecrest in Huntley, Johnsburg’s Jake Arden earned medalist honors, shooting even-par 36, and Tim Healy added a 41. Greg Scime led Huntley with a 41.

Grayslake North 155, Dundee-Crown 163: At Bonnie Dundee in Carpentersville, Grayslake North defeated Dundee-Crown in FVC play behind Sean Murphy’s 3-over-par 37. Anthony Cardelli led D-C with a 39.

CL South 160, McHenry 167: At RedTail in Lakewood, Nick Robles led the Gators (5-1, 5-1 FVC) with a 2-over-par 38 to earn medalist honors. Paul Damiani shot a 40 to lead the Warriors.
