Athlete of the week

Kelsey Nobilio

Johnsburg, jr.

Nobilio has helped the Skyhawks remain undefeated in the Fox Valley Conference Fox Division, racking up more than 45 digs in three games.

The libero has been a mainstay in the Skyhawks’ defense for the past three seasons and has been a driving force behind Johnsburg’s early success. The Skyhawks are 7-4 overall and 3-0 in the FVC Fox Division.

Noteworthy

Cracking the list: Hampshire senior setter and hitter Kara Wehrs is ranked No. 44 on prepvolleyball.com’s annual list of the top 100 senior volleyball players in the nation.

Wehrs, who is committed to Kansas along with her twin sister, Amy, plays for Club Fusion in the varsity offseason and is touted on prepvolleyball.com as having the potential to become one of the best setters on this year’s list of Senior Aces.

Crystal Lake Central senior libero Julie Jeziorowski is ranked 94th on the Senior Aces list; Prairie Ridge senior setter and middle hitter Taylor Brauneis came in at No. 99.

Jeziorowski, who plays with Brauneis for Club Fusion, is committed to Marquette, and Brauneis made a commitment to Louisville.

Assignments out: The IHSA released sectional assignments this week for the volleyball postseason, and some local teams have difficult regionals.

Hampshire was placed in the Class 3A Burlington Central Regional alongside the host Rockets, a perennial contender, and Sycamore, which won a Class 3A third-place trophy in 2007.

Richmond-Burton, Johnsburg, Grayslake North, Grayslake Central, Crystal Lake Central and Prairie Ridge head to the Class 3A Vernon Hills Sectional – regional sites still have not been determined.

Crystal Lake South hosts a Class 4A Regional that includes Huntley and McHenry, and the winner might meet Cary-Grove in the Huntley Sectional. The Trojans head to Barrington for the Fillies’ Class 4A regional.
