Cahill shot a 1-over-par 72 at Randall Oaks to take third place in the tournament but walked off the course believing that he could have done better. “I did hit the ball phenomenally,” Cahill said. “It was one of my best ball-striking rounds all year, but I didn’t hit any putts.” Cahill played his first nine holes – Nos. 3 through 11 in the shotgun start – at 2 under. Benet Academy’s John Callahan won with a 69. Ryan Laughlin tied for fifth with a 74 and paced Cary-Grove (316), which took fifth. Fremd won the team title (302). Mundelein Invitational: At Steeple Chase, Jordan Hernandez shot a 9-over 81 to lead Marengo (346) to a fifth-place finish. Huntley finished seventh and was led by Sam Yun’s 86. Mundelein (305) won the eight-team tournament.
Prairie Ridge Tournament: At Crystal Lake, Prairie Ridge (6-5-3) finished the tournament with a 0-0-3 record after a 0-0 draw against the Cary-Grove JV on Friday and two more draws Saturday, against Mundelein, 2-2, and DeKalb, 1-1. Hononegah Tournament: At Rockford, Crystal Lake Central finished the tournament with a 1-2 record. The Tigers (9-6-1) lost to Honenegah, 1-0, but rebounded to finish the tournament with a 4-0 win against Winnebago. Andy Lee scored two goals for Central. Crystal Lake South finished with a record of 1-1-1. The Gators (11-2-2) beat Dunlap, 3-0, and tied Springfield, 1-1. Jon Gutmann scored two goals for South. Cary-Grove 1, Huntley 0: At Cary, the Trojans beat the Red Raiders in Fox Valley Conference Valley Division play with a goal from Jon Guay. Will Higgins and Zac Cheatle combined for 10 saves in the shutout for Cary-Grove (7-1-0, 5-0). Kevin Montelongo made eight saves for Huntley (4-6-2, 2-3). Westminster Christian 2, Johnsburg 1: At Elgin, Colton Smiricky scored the lone goal for Johnsburg (5-4-0) as it lost in non-conference play. Burlington Central 3, Richmond-Burton 0: At Burlington, the Rockets (3-8, 1-3) lost a Big Northern Conference East Division match. CROSS COUNTRY Kaneland Eddington Invitational: At Elburn Woods in Maple Park, Ryan Alvarez ran a time of 15:47 to earn second place and lead Crystal Lake Central (92) to the team title. Dundee-Crown (97) placed third and was led by Anthony Manfrin’s first-place time of 15:40. Jacobs (189) finished in seventh. Warren Invitational: At O’Plaine Campus in Gurnee, Eddy Gibbons ran a time of 15:29 to finish in second place, and Matt Klein finished in third with a time of 15:31 as they led Cary-Grove (114) to a second-place finish.
