


J’burg coach’s son keys PR’s golf winMcHENRY – Prairie Ridge’s boys golf team defeated Johnsburg, 160-161, on Monday at Chapel Hill in a Fox Valley Conference dual meet with an ironic twist. The deciding score for the Wolves (7-2 overall, 7-2 FVC) came from Alex Frey, Johnsburg coach Brad Frey’s son. Johnsburg (6-6, 3-6) was leading by one stroke with the final few groups still on the course. Frey’s 6-over-par 41 replaced a higher score for Prairie Ridge. The Wolves were led by Brad Hyland’s 36, which earned him medalist honors. Also contributing for Prairie Ridge were Robinson Logue (41), Casey Schneider (42) and John Pottola (42). The Skyhawks were led by Tyler Chambers (37), Jake Arden (38), Rick Pries (43) and Tim Healy (43). North Boone 164, Harvard 187: At Beaver Creek in Poplar Grove, Nate Genz shot a 10-over 45 to lead the Hornets (1-9, 0-6) in their Big Northern Conference loss to the Vikings. Richmond-Burton 168, Oregon 176: At Silver Ridge in Oregon, Cam Owen shot an even-par 36 to lead the Rockets to a BNC win. Also for R-B (4-6, 4-6), Max Swanson shot a 40. Marian Central 156, Marmion 159: At Fox Valley in North Aurora, Luke Waggoner shot an even-par 36 to earn medalist honors, and Gordie Mitchard shot a 38 for the Hurricanes (9-3).

Grayslake Central 5, Woodstock 2: At Woodstock, Iris Krandell won at No. 3 singles, and Megan Kraft and Julia Frisbie won at No. 2 doubles to lead the Blue Streaks (2-6, 2-6) in their FVC loss to the Rams. Marian Central 5, Aurora Central Catholic 0: At Aurora, Kaitlyn Kieran and Maggie Yuk won at No. 1 singles in the Hurricanes sweep against the Chargers. Huntley 4, Elgin Academy 1: At Huntley, the Red Raiders (6-8) swept the doubles events including Kayal Garcia and Kelly Frankel’s 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 3 doubles. Cary-Grove 3, Marengo 2: At Cary, The Trojans (10-7) defeated the Indians (6-10) in non-conference play were led by Rachel Taddy’s win at No. 1 singles. GIRLS GOLF Prairie Ridge 185, Huntley 217: At Pinecrest in Huntley, Allison Holly shot a 4-over 40 to earn medalist honors for the Wolves’ (1-3, 1-3) in their FVC win against the Red Raiders. Huntley (1-4, 1-3) was led by Samantha Wightman’s 48. Belvidere North 190, Marengo 245: At Timber Point in Poplar Grove, Hayley Keil shot a 55 to lead the Indians in their non-conference loss. Elgin Country Club Tournament: Connie Ellett and Taylor Ellett each shot 6-over 42 and tied for seventh to lead Hampshire (187) to a fifth-place finish. Jacobs (217) was led by Maria Tamburrino’s 52 and came in seventh. Lauren Wendt shot a 59 to lead Dundee-Crown (265) to a ninth-place finish. St. Edward won the tournament with a 165.
