C-G steamrolls another foe
By JOE STEVENSON jstevenson@nwherald.com CARY – Cary-Grove’s football team has displayed such efficiency and dominance that playing time has become an issue … for the starters. In what has become the norm this season, the Trojans’ first-stringers played another half game as they rolled past Jacobs, 57-0, in their Fox Valley Conference Valley Division opener Saturday at Al Bohrer Field. “We go real hard each week in practice,” C-G linebacker Nick Underwood said. “We go hard in the first half and get done what we needed to get done.” Then the reserves get their time, and few teams’ backups have logged minutes like C-G’s. The Trojans (5-0 overall, 1-0 FVC Valley) have outscored their opponents, 260-6, and outgained them in yards, 1,964-428. Jacobs (1-4, 0-1) managed just six total yards on the Trojans, who recovered four fumbles and played almost the entire game on the Golden Eagles’ side of the field. C-G capitalized on an early fumble to score, then stopped the Eagles and scored again. On the ensuing kickoff, the Trojans forced another fumble and again punched it in, this time for a 21-0 lead with 4:10 remaining in the first quarter. Quarterback Tyler Krebs completed 7 of 12 passes for 106 yards, and threw two touchdown passes to wide receiver Chad McCarron in the first half. |
