


Harvard wins own volleyball titleHARVARD – The Harvard girls volleyball team won its own invitational on Saturday with a 5-0 record. The Hornets (12-5) defeated Antioch, Johnsburg, Oregon, Genoa-Kingston, and South Beloit in the round robin tournament. Harvard was led by Ashleigh Fisher’s 48 kills and Katrina Rotta’s 70 assists. Johnsburg (10-8) finished third with a 3-2 record, defeating Oregon, Genoa-Kingston, and South Beloit. Harlem Tournament: At Machesney Park, Woodstock finished the tournament by defeating Rolling Meadows, 25-17, 26-24, and losing the championship match to Harlem, 25-20, 25-17, to finish in second place with a tournament record of 4-1. The Blue Streaks (11-11) were led by Allison Wynn’s 13 kills and nine digs and Katie Ruben’s 11 kills on Saturday. Dundee-Crown (7-11) went 3-2 and took fifth. D-C was led by Alyssa Sarazine’s 48 kills. TENNIS Lakes Invitational: At Lake Villa, Johnsburg’s Nicole and Alex Stroner placed second at No. 2 doubles, and Leslie Schmidt and Liz Lafferty took second at No. 3 doubles to lead the Skyhawks (20.5 points) to a third-place finish. Heather Matejka took fifth at No. 1 singles for Johnsburg. Huntley (9) tied for ninth and was led by Kayla Garcia and Kelly Frankel’s fourth-place finish at No. 3 doubles. Dundee-Crown (9.5) placed eighth, and Carmel (29) won the 14-team event. GOLF Freeport Invitational: At Park Hills, Sarah Meith shot an 85 to finish sixth and lead Crystal Lake Central to a second-place finish with a score 362. Marian Central (391) took sixth and was led by Samantha Leicht’s 96. Katelyn Anderberg fired an 84 and finished fifth to lead Huntley (419) to a 10th-place finish. Jacobs (445) placed 15th and was led by Maria Tamburrino’s 100. Sarah Ross’ 102 led McHenry (446) to 16th. Dundee-Crown (535) finished 19th. Boylan (346) took first. CROSS COUNTRY Grant Invitational: At Camp Henry Horner in Fox Lake, Skylar Bayer ran a time of 19:39 to place fourth and lead Richmond-Burton (75) to second place. Marengo’s Katie Adams finished with a time of 18:29 to win the individual meet title. Zion-Benton won the meet with 57 points. Bartlett Invitational: At Sunrise Park, Crystal Lake South (136) placed fourth and was led by Marianne Collard’s sixth-place time of 17:58. Fifth-place Huntley (141) was led by Haley Loprieno, who place 12th with a time of 18:35. Kayla Beattie ran a time of 17:48, good for fourth, as she led Woodstock (174) to an eighth-place finish. Jacobs (287) placed 12th. Winnebago Invitational: At Fuller Forest Preserve, Brittany Carr ran a time of 14:06 to finish 29th and lead Harvard. Boylan won the event with 40 points. SWIMMING Buffalo Grove Stampede: Jacobs’ Kristin Horney swam a time of 26.76 seconds in the 50-yard freestyle to place fifth and placed eighth with a time of 1:02 in the 100 freestyle to lead the Golden Eagles (160 points) to a seventh-place finish. Lauren Curtis placed second in the 200 freestyle and third in the 100 butterfly to lead Cary-Grove (155) to eighth. Dundee-Crown (99) finished ninth and was led by Courtney Raske’s sixth-place finish in the 100 butterfly. Hersey won with 448 points. York Invitational: At Elmhurst, Claire Walker was second in the 100 butterfly and fifth in the 200 individual medley to lead Crystal Lake Central (72) to seventh.
