Beatties on top at Savage invite

NILES – Elise and Kayla Beattie finished first and second, respectively, Saturday at the 36th annual Pat Savage Cross Country Invitational, leading Woodstock to a second-place finish with 61 points.

Elise Beattie finished with a time of 17:33, and her sister, Kayla, finished in 18:13. The Blue Streaks also were led by Hailey Jacobs, who finished in 19th place (20:25), and Hannah Jacobs, who finished 21st (20:32).

Mary Kelley finished in fifth place (19:23) for Woodstock North.

Willowbrook won with 61 points.

Pat Harland Invitational: At Fox River Park in Wilmot, Wis., Amanda Marwitz finished seventh (19:46) to lead Prairie Ridge to a second-place finish behind Benet Academy.

Marengo’s Katie Adams took first (18:38), giving the Indians fifth place. Skylar Bayer placed 10th (20:06) for Richmond-Burton, which took sixth.

Peoria Invitational: At Detweiler Park, Huntley was led by Haley Loprieno’s fourth-place finish (18:06) as it placed ninth with 337 points at the 42-team meet.

Marianne Collard (17:35) led Crystal Lake South (424) to a 15th-place finish. Cary-Grove (695) placed 26th and was led by Paige Freund’s 104th-place finish (19:58). Quinn Rogers came in 74th (19:26) to lead McHenry (927) to a 32nd-place finish.

VOLLEYBALL

Mother McAuley/Asics Challenge: At Chicago, Cary-Grove (19-4) was led by Abbey Heredia’s 120 assists and Kelly Lamberti’s 77 kills as the Trojans went 3-2 in the tournament. C-G defeated Stagg, Chicago Mother McAuley and Notre Dame Academy (Ky.) to finish in 10th place and place second in the silver bracket in a tournament that featured some of the nation’s top teams.

Crystal Lake South (16-3) went 3-2, good for 17th place and the bronze bracket championship. The Gators defeated Stagg, Downers Grove North, and Wahlert (Iowa). Hannah Burkle’s 30 kills and Chelsea Sirovatka’s 87 assists led the Gators.

Hampshire Tournament: The host Whip-Purs (21-2) went 5-0 to earn the championship with wins against Marian Central, Jacobs, Byron, Auburn and Winnebago.

The Hurricanes (14-5) beat Jacobs, Byron, Auburn and Winnebago to finish in second place with a 4-1 record. Jacobs (8-16) went 3-2 at the tournament and defeated Winnebago, Auburn and Byron to finish in third place.

Stevenson Invitational: At Lincolnshire, McHenry (11-7) was led by Storm Melnick’s 78 digs, Katie Niehoff’s 82 assists and Danielle Tonyan’s 46 kills as the Warriors finished in third place with a 3-2 record. They defeated Wheeling, Grant and Stevenson.

IMSA Invitational: At Aurora, Sarah Diamond had 23 assists, and Christina Bravos had 12 kills as Woodstock North (3-20) went 2-2 at the tournament with wins against Serena and Joliet Central’s JV.

TENNIS

CL South Invitational: At Crystal Lake, Crystal Lake South went 2-0 with a 5-0 win against Palatine and a 4-1 win against New Trier.

The Gators (13-0 overall, 10-0 FVC) were led by No. 1 singles player Marisa Thome, who had a 6-1, 6-1 win against Palatine and a 6-2, 6-1 win against New Trier. The Gators’ No. 2 doubles team of Rachel Boorom and Rachel Siemon also won both matches, 6-4, 6-2 against Palatine and 6-3, 6-2 against New Trier.

SWIMMING

Conant Invitational: At Hoffman Estates, Claire Walker swam a time of 1:18 in the 100-yard breaststroke to win the “B” flight of the event and added a second-place finish in the “A” flight of the 100 butterfly (1:06) to lead Crystal Lake Central. The Tigers placed sixth with 91 points. Hersey won the event with 256 points.
