Blue Streaks win invitational

NILES – Woodstock’s J.D. Fuller and Phil Meyer finished first and second, respectively, Saturday at the 36th annual Pat Savage Cross Country Invitational.

Fuller ran a time of 15:50, and Meyer ran a time of 16:02 over the 3.1-mile course to lead Woodstock (102 points) to the team title in the 20-team meet. Niles North placed second with 109 points.

St. Charles North Invitational: At Leroy Oakes Forest Preserve in St. Charles, Prairie Ridge (61 points) finished second behind Hersey (52).

The Wolves had three consecutive finishers, with Matt Neubauer finishing sixth (16:08.5), Mitch Wilkins finishing seventh (16:09.1), and Marc DiVerde finishing eighth (16:17.4).

Peoria Invitational: At
Detweiler Park, Cary-Grove (403) placed 12th and was led by Matt Klein’s 32nd-place finish (15:41) in the 49-team meet. Jeff Sabatka’s 15:19 was good for 12th place and led McHenry (465 points) to an 18th-place finish. Huntley (875, 30th place) was led by Aaron Bengtson (16:41), which placed him in 129th.

York won the meet.

SOCCER

McHenry Tournament: McHenry played scoreless draws against Lakes and Johnsburg and won its own tournament.

McHenry (6-9-3) finished in a first-place tie with Johnsburg (9-4-2) with 16 points, but won the championship on the third tiebreaker – goals against. McHenry gave up no goals to Johnsburg’s one.

Johnsburg beat Harlem, 3-1, in its second game.

Hampshire Tournament: Hampshire (8-7-1) defeated Woodstock North and Huntley before losing the championship game to South Elgin, 7-0, and finished second in the tournament. Besides losing to Hampshire, Huntley (8-8-2) beat Jefferson and Plainfield to finish third. The Thunder (0-15) also lost to Jefferson and Auburn to finish in eighth place.

Hononegah 6, Marian Central 4: At Woodstock, Ben Platta and Kyle Gust each had two goals in a non-conference loss for Marian (14-3).

GOLF

Antioch Quad: At Antioch Country Club, Johnsburg’s Jake Arden fired a 7-over-par 78 to take medalist honors and lead the Skyhawks to a win in the four-team event with a score 340, beating Antioch by a stroke.
