


Marian’s Hull serves up 9th soccer shutoutWOODSTOCK – Andrew Hull made five saves in goal to record his ninth shutout this season in Marian Central’s 5-0 win against Vernon Hills in non-conference boys soccer action Monday. Hurricanes coach Mike Golda said Vernon Hills played a solid first half and tried to control the possession against his team but still trailed, 2-0, at halftime. Marian turned the tables in the second half to cruise to the win. “In the second half we really took over possession-wise,” he said. “We kind of wore them out.” Ben Platta led the Hurricanes with a goal in the first half and another in the second. Also scoring for the Hurricanes (15-3), were Trevor Diedrich, Shane Marrin and Kyle Gust. Burlington Central 1, Harvard 0: At Harvard, the Hornets gave up a penalty kick goal with 10 minutes left in the second half to sustain their first big Northern Conference East Division loss this season. Chase Blazier made five saves in goal for Harvard (13-3-2 overall, 6-1-1 BNC East). GIRLS TENNIS Johnsburg 6, Grayslake North 1: At Johnsburg, the No. 1 doubles team of Alexa Stroner and Nicole Stroner defeated Lainey Pasternak and Fiona Caflisch, 6-0, 6-0, to improve to 18-3 this season and lead the Skyhawks (12-2 overall, 10-2 Fox Valley Conference) to an FVC victory against the Knights (4-11, 3-9). Sarah Coughlin won at No. 2 singles for Johnsburg. Prairie Ridge 5, CL South 2: At Crystal Lake, Allison Murphy and Carolyn Huerth won at No. 1 doubles to lead the Wolves to an FVC win. Marisa Thome won at No. 1 singles for the host Gators (13-1, 10-1). Huntley 5, Dundee-Crown 2: At Huntley, Ashley Pietrusiak and Sam Chapman won at No. 1 doubles for the Red Raiders (7-10, 2-9) in an FVC win. Ale Ballester won at No. 1 singles for the Chargers (0-11, 0-11). CL Central 7, McHenry 0: At Crystal Lake, Nelle Youel did not give up a game at No. 1 singles for the Tigers (10-5, 9-2) against the Warriors (7-6, 2-4). Marengo 5, Round Lake 1: At Marengo, Sarah Olson and Brittany Berrier won at No. 1 doubles for the Indians in a non-conference win. Also for Marengo (9-12), Ally and Amber Fillmore won at No. 3 doubles. Jacobs 5, Grayslake Central 2: At Algonquin, Lauren Steinkamp and Marcilyn Rowan won at No. 1 doubles in an FVC win for the Golden Eagles. GIRLS GOLF Palatine 202, Huntley 213: At Pinecrest in Huntley, Katlyn Anderberg shot an 8-over-par 44 to lead the Red Raiders (5-5) in a non-conference loss. GIRLS VOLLEYBALL Alden-Hebron 2, Union Grove Christian 0: At Hebron, Kylee Pearson had seven digs, and Morgan Lohse added seven assists to lead the Giants (4-8) to a non-conference win.
