Hampshire's Connie Ellett earns All-State finish

CARBONDALE – Hampshire sophomore Connie Ellett shot an 8-over-par 80 Saturday for a 160 total to earn All-State honors with a 25th-place finish in the IHSA Class AA Girls Golf State Tournament at Hickory Ridge.

Her sister and teammate, junior Taylor, shot an 84 for a 169 total to finish 43rd.

Hampshire coach Sue Ellett said that she was impressed by Connie Ellett’s performance for her first time at state and that Taylor Ellett didn’t shoot as well as Taylor wanted.

“I thought Connie, for a first-time appearance, was pretty steady,” Sue Ellett said. “She made only two double bogeys over 36 holes and played with a lot of poise. Taylor was a little higher score-wise than she wanted. Nothing terrible but never really got it going. I thought all season long she carried us and ended up with a better finish than last year’s 43rd.”

Hayley Guyton of Kaneland won the individual state championship with a 1-over 145 total. Homewood-Flossmoor won the team title.
