C-G goes 10-0 in Valley volleyball

CARY – The Cary-Grove girls volleyball team completed a perfect Fox Valley Conference Valley Division season Thursday, as the Trojans beat Dundee-Crown, 25-16, 25-11.

“It’s a wonderful accomplishment, and we are definitely enjoying this moment,” C-G coach Patty Langanis said. “We are taking some time to celebrate this, but we are focused on the second half of our season with the playoffs.”

The Trojans (31-4 overall, 10-0 FVC Valley) were led by junior outside hitter Kelly Lamberti with seven kills.

“Lamberti has so much power that it is tough for anyone to stop her when she gets it going,” Langanis said.

C-G senior setter Abbey Heredia added 15 assists.

“Abbey, she is a very dependable and intelligent player, and it’s great to have her on the court,” Langanis added.

D-C (7-21, 0-10) had two players, Alyssa Sarrazine and Alexa
Shemanske, with two kills.

CL South 2, McHenry 0: At Crystal Lake, South senior middle hitter Brittany Atkinson had 10 kills for the Gators (23-7, 7-3) in their 26-24, 25-20 win against McHenry in FVC Valley play.

Danielle Tonyan led the Warriors (21-12, 5-5) with nine kills.

CL Central 2, Woodstock 0: At Woodstock, Julie Jeziorowski had 14 digs and was a perfect 17 of 17 in passing for Central (32-3, 11-1) in its 25-18, 25-22 FVC Fox win against the Blue Streaks (16-18, 6-6), who were led by Allison Wynn with six kills and seven digs. The Tigers shared the division title with Prairie Ridge.

Prairie Ridge 2, Woodstock North 0: At Crystal Lake, the Wolves (26-9, 11-1) earned a share of the FVC Fox title with a 25-12, 25-14 win against the Thunder (4-28, 0-12).

Woodstock North junior right-side hitter Morgan Niemeyer had three kills and three aces.

Johnsburg 2 , Grayslake North 0: At Johnsburg, Aubrey Wanta had nine kills and five assists for the Skyhawks (20-15, 8-4) in their 25-23, 25-13 FVC Fox victory against the Knights (8-27, 2-10).

Hampshire 2, South Elgin 0: At Hampshire, Amy Wehrs had 13 kills to lead the Whip-Purs (25-4) in a 31-29, 25-9 non-conference win.

SWIMMING

Dundee-Crown 88, Woodstock 81: At Woodstock, Colleen Champa won the 100-yard butterfly (1:07.9) and the 200 freestyle (2:05.7) for the Chargers. Woodstock’s Haley Brasile won the 50 freestyle (25.9 seconds) and the 500 free (5:37.7).
