CL Central gets even with 38-9 win

HARVARD – After a loss Monday, Crystal Lake Central’s girls’ basketball team looked to rebound Wednesday in the opening game of the Harvard Pre-Turkey Tournament.

Nelle Youel scored 14 points as the Tigers beat the host Hornets, 38-9. Central coach Matt LePage said that it was a better effort from Monday night.

“Offensively, we were a little more patient and more balanced,” LePage said. “We need to grow up quickly, but overall we had better movement than the other night.”

Ashley Scott had five points to lead the Hornets (0-1).

Mundelein Turkey Shootout: At Mundelein, Prairie Ridge suffered its first loss of the season, losing to Carmel, 39-28, to fall to 1-1 in tourney play.

Taylor Smerecky and Haley Ljunggren led the Wolves with 10 points each. Prairie Ridge (2-1) will conclude pool play today against Rolling Meadows.

Dundee-Crown Tournament: At Carpentersville, Ashley Conway scored seven points as McHenry fell to Palatine, 60-33. Alissa Rosga added six for the Warriors (0-1).

In other tournament action, Ali Sanders scored 13 points for Dundee-Crown (0-2) as the Chargers lost to Streamwood, 62-44.
