Coach of the Year: Marty Sobczak, Woodstock First team Katie Adams Marengo, fr. Adams burst onto the high school scene immediately with a third-place finish in the McHenry County Meet. She was Big Northern Conference champion and beat Woodstock’s Beattie sisters to win the Freeport Regional. However, she was stricken with the flu before the Belvidere Sectional and missed a trip to state by two places. Elise Beattie Woodstock, sr. Beattie repeated as an All-State runner, taking third place in the Class 2A State Meet after finishing 17th in 3A as a junior. She was third in the Freeport Regional and second in the Belvidere Sectional. She helped the Blue Streaks finish seventh at state. Kayla Beattie Woodstock, jr. The Northwest Herald Runner of the Year was the Class 2A state champion in 17:14, finishing six seconds ahead of Mount Vernon’s Margo Richardson. Beattie’s time would have been close to Class 3A champion Lavinia Jurkiewicz of Whitney Young (17:11). Beattie also won the Fox Valley Conference Meet and the Belvidere Sectional. Marianne Collard Crystal Lake South, jr. Collard was the area’s lone individual qualifier for the Class 3A State Meet and finished 53rd in that race. Collard consistently was among the top five in most big races. She took third in the FVC Meet, won the Guilford Regional and, early in the season, won the Wauconda Invitational. Kelly McNeely Johnsburg, so. McNeely started the season by taking fourth in the McHenry County Meet, fifth in the Crystal Lake South Invitational, then second in the Wauconda Invitational. She suffered a stress fracture in her left foot and missed five weeks of running. She trained diligently in a pool, then came back to take third in the Class 2A Antioch Regional, eighth in the Belvidere Sectional and 10th at state.
