Today: Sean Considine, offensive guard The journey has been nothing short of spectacular thus far this season. Playing in the 6A state championship is something I’ve dreamed of since the first day I saw a Trojans football game. It was 2004, and we took on Highland Park in the season opener. Family friend, Tom Oswald, a senior that season, was the reason I started going to the football games in the first place. The 2004 C-G team gave all attending their money’s worth. I attended every one of those games that year, and became good family friends with the Magos. While I sat with his younger brothers, Robby and Sam, Johnny Mago, a sophomore, was on the field playing. The season really showed the towns of Fox River Grove and Cary coming together, which was evident at the Morgan Park game in the semifinals. The two towns brought what seemed like 10,000 people to our side of the stands. That game was a dream come true to everyone who saw it. I remember as we sat in the stands in the final minutes, praying for our boys to come out with the “W.” When I step on to the field, I will know that what I’m playing for is more than we could ever have imagined. It isn’t just a state final game, but a chance to place Cary-Grove in glory, and give C-G the rightful name that so many of our predecessors deserve. We have the possibility to finally bring home what everyone in the community has been hoping for. The names of past Trojans will ring throughout the towns of Cary and Fox River Grove, along with ours. Nowadays, I can look back upon the past years and know that what I’m doing is for more than just the players I share the field with. This game is for all the players, all the dreamers, and all the coaches who started the Cary-Grove legacy. Will Yocius, another senior on the ’04 team, came to practice this week and told us that it’s just another game at a different venue. Will said that we cannot let that affect our play. The championship is just another game to add to the amazing senior year that we have all dreamed of. As I look forward to (today), I am eager to see two teams with so much potential square off, in what is promised to be a game no one will ever forget. The game will bring forth obstacles that we have not faced, but also will give us opportunity to make this dream season a reality. |
