


R-B wrestlers win own tourneyRICHMOND – The Richmond-Burton wrestling team played the greedy host Saturday, edging second-place Marengo by six points to win the R-B Classic. R-B (177 points) took first out of 14 teams, with two championship match wins. Richard Kahnt (140 pounds) defeated Marengo’s Damon Cloey by major decision, 12-3, and Connor Graves (145) defeated Winnebago’s Kody Kuczynski by a double-overtime decision, 2-1. Marengo (171) had three wrestlers win championship matches, including Jake Keefer (119 pounds), Mark Hendricks (171) and Angel Botzoc (189). Johnsburg (119) finished fourth, Marian Central (78.5) seventh, Alden-Hebron (58) ninth and Hampshire (47) 11th. Johnsburg’s Justin Peete (160 pounds) won his championship match by decision, 4-3. Plainfield East Invitational: Woodstock North went 1-3 in dual meets, with losses against Tinley Park, Rich Central and Rich South. The Thunder defeated Plainfield East, with Ben Brucki, Jon Walsh, Dustin Kroening and Jesse Eames earning pins. East Troy Dual Tournament: At East Troy, Wis., Harvard (10-1) finished second out of eight teams, going 4-1 in its dual meets. For the Hornets, Chance Shelton, Dillon Cowan and Cody Melson went 5-0. Leyden Invitational: At Northlake, Crystal Lake South (4-1) defeated New Trier and Buffalo Grove, but lost to Leyden on a tiebreaker. For the Gators, Mark Mohler, Kean Loupee, Cullen Smith and Nick Fontanetta each went 3-0. BOYS BOWLING Immaculate Conception Invitational: At the Stardust Bowl of Addison, Huntley (3-3) finished seventh (3,291) behind Dylan Rehner’s team-high 641 series and Max Barron’s team-high 265 game. Vernon Hills Cougar Classic: At Vernon Hills, McHenry finished fifth out of 26 teams. For the Warriors, Kent Grimes ended the day with the fifth-best series, bowling a 1,269 in six games. GIRLS BOWLING Dundee-Crown Charger Scramble Tournament: At Carpentersville, Huntley took first place behind Kacy Kane’s 511 series, second in the tournament, and Amy Antczack’s seventh-best 457 series. BOYS HOCKEY National Invitational Scholastic Showcase: At Jamestown, N.Y., Prairie Ridge became one of four semifinalists with victories against Providence (Washington, D.C.) and Culver Academy (Ind.) on Day 2 of the tournament. The showcase began with 16 nationally ranked teams from across the country. Prairie Ridge defeated Providence, 4-3, in a six-round shootout after the game was tied, 3-3, in regulation. Junior center Mike Kurek scored the winning goal in the shootout. In their second game, the Wolves defeated Culver Academy, 3-1, with senior wing Chris Dallas scoring two goals and Alexander Taulien adding one. Cory Simons made 29 saves. Friday’s result Loyola Academy 3, Huntley/Lake Zurich 1: At Lincolnwood, the only goal for Huntley/Lake Zurich came in the third period by Adam Vance.
