McHenry wrestlers win big

WOODSTOCK – McHenry came into Thursday’s wrestling dual meet with Woodstock North knowing it would be facing a young team in its first year of varsity competition.

The Warriors got four forfeits and got three pins in a row from Victor Nellessen at 160 pounds, Marco Delgadillo at 171 and Kevin Grimshaw at 189 to get a 65-12 Fox Valley Conference win.

McHenry coach Will Gaddy was pleased with his team’s performance.

“Overall, I think we wrestled pretty well and looked good on our feet,” Gaddy said.

Jesse Eames (285 pounds) had the only pin for North.

Grayslake North 40, Woodstock 23: At Grayslake, Drew Walkington had a pin at 189 pounds, but the Blue Streaks lost in FVC action.

Harvard 35, Sandwich 33: At Sandwich, Dan Stott’s major decision at 160 gave the Hornets the victory in a non-conference meet. Alredo Jimenez (103), Chance Shelton (112) and Andy Kick (171) each had pins for Harvard.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Bartlett 47, Huntley 45: At Bartlett, Carly Goede had 11 points, five steals and five assists, but the Red Raiders lost in non-conference play.

Amanda Wisniewski and CeCe Tsevas each had 10 points for Huntley (4-3).

BOYS BOWLING

Rochelle 3,098, Huntley 3,012: At Rochelle, Ignario Solorzano bowled a 614 series with a 242 game, but the Red Raiders lost to the Hubs.

Anthony Kennedy added a 543 series, including a 236 game for Huntley.

GIRLS BOWLING

Woodstock (co-op) 2,063, St. Edward 1,766: At Woodstock, Lynea Stieg bowled a 472 series with a 190 high game as the Blue Streaks won the matchup.

Grayslake North 2,222, Huntley 1,928: At Grayslake, Kacy Kane bowled a 221, but the Red Raiders lost to the Knights.

McHenry 2,296, Grayslake Central 1,924: At Johnsburg, Alyssa Amstadt bowled a 533 series to lead the Warriors to the victory.

BOYS HOCKEY

Crystal Lake South 5, Mundelein 4: At Mundelein, Chris Hollich and Eric Purcell each had two goals as the Gators won the game.

CCM 7, Grayslake 0: At Crystal Lake, Kevin Smith had a hat trick while Brent Wadzita added two goals as CCM got the victory.
