Giants pull out OT victory

HEBRON – The Alden-Hebron boys basketball team won’t get any style points after its 39-37 Northeastern Athletic Conference overtime victory against Kirkland-Hiawatha on Tuesday, but the Giants will take the win.

“It wasn’t the prettiest of games,” A-H coach Dean Bentley said. “We came out uninspired, but we found a little heart in the second half.

“Senior [center] Jared Hilton really kept us in the game in the third quarter,” Bentley said. “We were able to get some momentum once we got the ball to him on the inside and we barely pulled it out in the end.”

Hilton scored a game-high 18 points for the Giants (2-2 overall, 1-2 NAC), including 16 in the second half and overtime combined.

Huntley 57, Marengo 36: At Marengo, junior guard Tyler Brunschon scored 16 points and forward Justin Frederick added 14 to lead the Red Raiders (6-1) to a non-conference win against Marengo. Austin Brettschneider had nine points for the Indians (0-6).

Bartlett 49, Crystal Lake South 46: At Bartlett, the Gators (3-3) lost in non-conference action, with forward Kevin Rogers scoring 14 points and guard Ethan Breitenstein adding 10.

Buffalo Grove 68, Prairie Ridge 46: At Crystal Lake, guard Chad Ljunggren scored 10 points, but the Wolves (3-4) lost in non-conference action.

Grayslake Central 64, Cary-Grove 51: At Cary, forward Chad McCarronhad a team-high 15 points, but the Trojans (3-5) lost a Fox Valley Conference crossover game to the Rams (4-4).

GIRLS BASKETBALL

McHenry 55, Dundee-Crown 31: At McHenry, the Warriors (3-4, 1-1 FVC Valley) won their first conference game behind Alyssa Haayer’s 12 points. For the Chargers (2-8, 0-2), guard Megan Fasanella scored nine points.

BOYS SWIMMING

Woodstock Triangular: At Woodstock, Zach Zankle (200 IM and 100 backstroke) and Dylan Peterson (50 freestyle and 100 freestyle) each won two events to lead the Woodstock/Woodstock North co-op team (153 points) past Belvidere North (78) and Belvidere (40).

McHenry 125, Zion-Benton 45: At McHenry, the Warriors won every event, with Joe Peck (200-yard IM and 100 backstroke), Reilly Shanahan (50 free and 100 breaststroke), Dan Brucki (200 freesytle) and Lucas Matthys (100 butterfly), among the winners.
