Point takin'The Rant was sittin’ around thinkin’ about hoops and just how important a true point guard is if you want to win games. That’s right, chances are that if a team doesn’t have a good point guard they will only reach a certain level of play. The point guard is much like the quarterback out on the floor and makes constant decisions that effect the game. The Rant knows there’s an exception to every rule, but for the most part, without a solid point guard, ya can kiss the dream season goodbye. If ya think about the best teams in the area and who they have running the show, it makes The Rant’s case for him. On the girls side, Johnsburg has Megan Lopez, Cary-Grove has Meg Straumann and Jacobs has Maria Tamburrino. These are probably the three best local girls teams, and they have three of the area’s best point guards. For the boys, Johnsburg has Mike Dixon, Marian Central has Jake Everly and Prairie Ridge has Chad Ljunggren. Once again, three good teams, three good point guards. Dundee-Crown had a lot of success last season finishin’ fourth in state and they also had Jeff Beck at the point, not to mention what John Moran did for Jacobs durin’ his run. The point guard usually is an extension of the coach on the floor and without a good one good luck gettin’ anywhere. |
