


McHenry beats Lakes at buzzerFOX LAKE– McHenry’s boys basketball team beat Lakes, 55-52, on Tuesday in dramatic fashion at the Grant Holiday Tournament. Josh McNaughton hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to propel the Warriors (6-3). Besides the winning shot, McNaughton scored 11 points for McHenry. Sam Madson scored 16 points to lead the Warriors, who are 2-0 in pool play. They will play Johnsburg (9-0), which beat Northridge Prep, 52-36, for the pool championship at 5:30 p.m. today. Richmond-Burton beat Grant, 51-45, and earned a spot in the championship game. R-B (6-5) is 2-0 in pool play and conclude pool play against Round Lake at 4 p.m. Marengo E.C. Nichols Holiday Tournament: Marengo was led by Colin (13 points) and Austin (11 points) Brettschneider as it beat Alden-Hebron, 42-33, for its first win of the season and improved to 1-2 in pool play. The Giants (3-4) were led by Jared Hilton’s 12 points as they fell to 0-2 in pool play. Harvard outscored North Boone, 18-13, in the fourth quarter to force overtime at 55-55. The Hornets could not sustain the momentum and lost, 70-59, to fall to 0-3 in pool play. Zach Fiegel and Mac Kurth each scored 14 points to lead Harvard (2-9). Colin Brettschneider scored eight points, but Marengo (1-8) lost to Rockford Lutheran, 45-31. Elgin Holiday Tournament: Dundee-Crown lost its consolation quarterfinal game to Batavia, DeKalb Chuck Dayton Tournament: Tyler Brunschon scored 26 points to lead Huntley, but it lost to Geneva, 52-43. Huntley (7-4) will play Chicago North Grand at 10:30 a.m. today after finishing 0-3 in pool play. Woodstock North lost to Belvidere, 61-49. The Thunder (0-9) will play Rochelle at 9 a.m. today. WRESTLING Dvorak Tournament: At Machensey Park, Joey Kielbasa (152) won the championship, and Trevor Jauch (125) finished second to lead Crystal Lake Central (125.5) to an eighth-place finish at a 30-team event featuring some of the top teams from Illinois. Also placing for the Tigers were Taylor Servant (145, fifth) and Austin Marsden (189, third). Dundee-Crown (68) finished 23rd. Montini won with 199.50 points. HOCKEY Cary-Grove 5, CCM 3: At Crystal Lake, Mike Opfer scored two goals and assisted on another in the Trojans’ win. GIRLS BASKETBALL Mundelein Holiday Tournament: Cary-Grove advanced to the championship semifinals by beating Streamwood, 56-41, and finishing pool play with a 3-0 record. C-G (13-0) was led by Claire Jakubicek’s 16 points. Prairie Ridge was led Katrina Kinowski’s 18 points as it beat Zion-Benton, 50-42, to finish pool play 2-1. The Wolves (7-6) will meet Cary-Grove at Huntley beat Mundelein, 51-48. The Red Raiders (5-6) will face Rolling Meadows at 1:30 p.m. today.
