


Inside hockeyAthlete of the Week Alexander Taulien Prairie Ridge, Junior Taulien helped the Wolves to second place in the Black River Falls (Wis.) Tournament this week. Prairie Ridge beat North, 4-1; beat Black River Falls, 5-1; and lost to Sparta, 4-3. Against Sparta, Taulien had a goal and assist for the Wolves. Taulien had a pair of goals in the victory against the host team. “Alexander uses excellent speed and ability to create space,” Prairie Ridge coach Casey Van Damme said. “Alexander sets the tone for his teammates with his big open-ice hits as well as his rounded offensive play has proved a spark throughout the season.” Taulien has 32 goals and 19 assists for the Wolves. Noteworthy Crystal Lake South takes second: South came up short in its bid for a third consecutive Gator Cup championship Wednesday when it lost to Lake Forest, 2-0, in the title game. The Gators were stopped by Scouts goalie Mark Klein, who had 36 saves in the championship game. South goalie Eric Bartos also was outstanding, stopping 20 of 21 shots. Lake Forest’s final goal was an empty-netter. South is 28-11-3 for the season. Prairie Ridge Alumni Game: Prairie Ridge is inviting past players to its third annual alumni hockey game at 8:10 p.m. today at the Crystal Ice House. Any former Wolves may come and play in the game. This Week’s Crystal Lake South vs. PREP 2 p.m. Sunday, West The Gators lead the Metro Central American Division and go on the road to face a PREP team that is one of the other top teams in the standings. Crystal Lake South 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, The Gators and Broncos, the top two teams in the Metro Central American Division, meet in a game that will be huge for deciding first place in the division. |
