


Huntley girls earn FVC Fox winCARPENTERSVILLE – The Huntley girls basketball team used a strong first quarter on offense and defense Tuesday to defeat Dundee-Crown, 48-36, for its first Fox Valley Conference Valley Division victory of the season. The Red Raiders (7-8 overall, 1-2 FVC Valley) grabbed a 17-2 lead on the Chargers (2-14, 0-3) after one quarter and never looked back. Senior forward Hillary Johnson scored seven points in the first and finished with 11 to lead Huntley. Junior guard CeCe Tsevas added nine points for the Red Raiders. For D-C, senior guard Megan Fasanella had a game-high 13 points, and Alexis Holm added 10. Cary-Grove 52, McHenry 32: At Cary, junior forward Claire Jakubicek scored 18 points to lead the Trojans (15-1, 2-0) to an FVC Valley win. For the Warriors (10-9, 1-2), Emma Romme and Ashley Conway each scored seven points. Grayslake North 60, CL Central 47: At Crystal Lake, junior guard Nelle Youel scored a game-high 22 points, but the Tigers (10-7, 1-2) lost in FVC Fox play. Johnsburg 56, Grayslake Central 47: At Grayslake, the Skyhawks remained perfect in the FVC Fox and handed the Rams (10-5, 4-1) their first division loss. Johnsburg (13-4, 4-0) was led by junior guard Melissa Dixon’s game-high 23 points, and Danielle Slivka added 20. Prairie Ridge 49, Marian Central 25: At Woodstock, the Wolves (6-7) won the nonconference game against the Hurricanes
McHenry 56, Grant 37: At McHenry, junior forward Jimmy Preston had a game-high 22 points to lead the Warriors (8-4) to a nonconference win. Richmond-Burton 47, Antioch 41: At Richmond, senior forward Kyle Wismer had 18 points, and Chad O’Kane added 14 in a non-conference win for the Rockets (8-6). Hampshire 51, Marengo 29: At Hampshire, the Whip-Purs opened their Big Northern Conference East Division schedule with a win. Hampshire (7-4, 1-0) was led by sophomore center Tyler Watzlawick’s game-high 18 points. Austin Brettschneider had eight points for the Indians (2-10, 0-1).
Byron Tri-Meet: At Byron, the Woodstock boys swimming team finished in third place with 80 points. DeKalb (126) won the meet, followed by Byron (114). Woodstock’s team of Dylan Peterson, Trevor Nomm, Morgan Hoffman and Ben Shearer finished second in the BOYS BOWLING Rochelle 3,068, Huntley 3,024: At Bowl-Hi Lanes in Huntley, Dylan Rehner bowled a high series of 684, and Scott Bailey bowled a high game of 289, but the Red Raiders (3-8) lost. • Alex Kantecki contributed to this report. |
