Kathe scored two goals and had one assist as the Golden Eagles lost to Lockport, 4-3, on Tuesday. Jacobs was down to eight skaters for that game after five players received suspensions from a game Sunday against Guerin. Jacobs coach Chip Anderson said hard feelings between players on the teams escalated during the game, and eventually a fight broke out. Anderson said Kathe, a center, was critical in helping the Eagles stay close to Lockport. Noteworthy Splitting up: For regular-season play this season, the Metro Central and Northwest conferences combined and play in American and National divisions, split mostly on talent level. All games, division and non-division, have counted in the standings for the regular-season titles. For the postseason, and in Chicago Metropolitan Hockey League All-Star games, the Central and Northwest will split up so four conferences (Central, Northwest, North and West) can be represented. On Jan. 31, the Northwest plays the West at noon at West Meadows Ice Arena in Rolling Meadows in the first varsity All-Star game. Central faces North at 5:30, also at West Meadows. The top five Central teams will play in the Scholastic Cup playoffs with the bottom five in the Founders Cup. Crystal Lake South, Jacobs and Cary-Grove should make the cut for the Scholastic, and the CCM Tigers will be in the Founders. Huntley, which co-ops with Lake Zurich, will be in the Northwest Founders Cup playoffs. The seven-team Northwest Division will have the top three in Scholastic and bottom three in Founders, and the fourth-place team will compete in both. This week’s top games Rockford vs. Prairie Ridge 8:10 p.m. today, The Wolves, who are playing an independent schedule this season, take on Rockford. Jacobs vs. Cary-Grove 8:40 p.m. Monday, The teams are three points apart in the Metro Central American Division standings, Jacobs has 17 and C-G has 14. – Joe Stevenson jstevenson@nwherald.com |
