Prairie Ridge gymnasts win Neuqua Valley invite

NAPERVILLE – Prairie Ridge’s girls gymnastics team had an added degree of difficulty when defending state all-around champion Jenny Covers did not compete Saturday, but the Wolves won the five-team Neuqua Valley Invitational with 142.825 points.

Neuqua Valley was second with 142.2.

Covers suffered a bruised heel warming up when she hit a foot on the floor rather than the mat. Molly Sandquist took third, and Kalie Herman was fourth in the all-around. Sandquist won the balance beam and was second in floor exercise.

Taylor Weber and Heather Kill also placed in individual events for the Wolves.

BOYS WRESTLING

Carl Sandburg Quadrangular: At Orland Park, Crystal Lake Central went 2-1 for the day in duals, losing to the host Eagles, 49-23, and defeating Sycamore, 34-30, and Harlem, 45-27.

Taylor Servant (140 pounds), Joey Kielbasa (152), Austin Marsden (189) and Gage Harrah (215) were 3-0 for the Tigers. The Tigers are 13-2 in dual matches.

Batavia Invitational: Conor Infelise and Drew Dorman each earned third-place finishes in the 13-team event and led McHenry to a sixth-place finish with 114 points.

Kaneland Tournament: At Maple Park, Joey Moorehouse (152) and Jake Keefer (119) each won championships to lead Marengo. Marian Central was led by Mikey Pappas’ championship at 160 pounds.

Round Lake Duals: Joe Ellis (125) went 3-0 and Connor Graves went 3-0 to lead Richmond-Burton, which finished, 2-1.

Stillman Valley Duals: Harvard defeated Johnsburg, 48-28, and Winnebago, 60-20, and lost to Stillman Valley, 45-24. Matt Melson (285) and Jerry Gratz (145) each went 3-0 to lead the Hornets.

Johnsburg was led by Bobby McKay, who went 3-0. The Skyhawks defeated Winnebago, 54-28, and lost to Stillman Valley, 59-12.

BOYS HOCKEY

CCM 8, Guerin 1: At Crystal Lake, Brent Wadzita scored two goals, and Trey Ridenour had three assists for the Tigers Metro Central National Division win at the Crystal Ice House. Jesper Elfstorm recorded nine saves for CCM (7-12-4 in division play).

BOYS SWIMMING

Jefferson Invitational: At Rockford, Reiley Shannahan took third in the 200-yard individual medley (2:05) and in the 100 breaststroke (1:03) to lead McHenry (138.5) to a fourth-place finish. Cary-Grove (191) finished in second and was led by Mike Hamann’s second-place finish in the 200 IM (2:04) and the 100 backstroke (56.05 seconds). Woodstock (45) finished 12th, and DeKalb won the 16-team meet with 234 points.

St. Charles East Invitational: Alex Elston took second in the 100 butterfly (54.68 seconds) and fourth in the 100 freestyle (52.10) to lead Jacobs/Dundee-Crown (133) to fifth-place.
