Props to Marian an' postseason ponderin'

Hopefully the Jacobs and Cary-Grove girls basketball teams like to share because after each team won on Friday night, they each get a piece of the FVC Valley Division title.

The Grove trailed in its game for over three quarters before takin’ the lead away from Huntley. Despite playin’ a good game the Red Raiders upset bid just didn’t hold up in the fourth quarter. The Trojans closed out the game well and did not let their piece of the championship slip away.

The Golden Eagles took care of business against Dundee-Crown after that huge last-second win over The Grove earlier in the week. The Eagles finished division play on a high note and their reward is a division title. Let’s see which of ‘em does a better job makin’ that momentum work for ‘em in the playoffs.

The Burg clinched their sixth FVC Fox title with a win over CL Community on Friday. When ya win six titles in a row, it’s clear you’re doin’ somethin’ right. Rant knows the Skyhawks players and coach Mike Toussaint want to finally get over the hump and make state this season. Good luck to ya.

CL Community also not havin’ too bad a year, puttin’ up 16 wins. That’s an improvement over their last regular season. Can they better last year’s regional championship is what Rant wants to know.

In boys hoops, The Rant has to give it up for coach Curtis Price and his Marian Central team.

The ‘Canes beat St. Francis by six points and are tied with the Spartans in the loss column in the Suburban Christian Conference. Marian has played a couple more games than the Spartans, but The Rant feels pretty good about their chances of getting a least a share of that SCC Blue Division title.

The game Rant woulda liked to see: Johnsburg boys vs. Marian Central. The ‘Canes have played lotsa FVC teams this season and beat most of ‘em. But they missed one of the strongest teams in the conference ... the Skyhawks.

Way it breaks down this year, both teams would have to wait until deep into the playoffs before a meetin’ becomes possible.

Rant wouldn’t mind seein’ it then, either. Who do you think would win that matchup, hoops fans?

Finally, we’ve got some interestin’ matchups comin’ up next week on the boys scene. Johnsburg gets another crack at Grayslake Central on Friday, an’ this time at home. Meanwhile, McHenry hosts C-G ... and as it stands now, those two are tied – along with CL South – atop the FVC Valley.
